Traveling? Hotel Food Recipes!

We all know how $$ room service can be when traveling. So when I saw this a few months ago, I thought it was smart and inventive! Making a meal in your hotel room is easier then one would think!

Today I saw this video (I love Alton Brown!) and I think it's also worth watching for those who want to save some money on their next trip.

Do you have any foodie tips when traveling? Or have you made any meals in the hotel? (Or maybe have you seen any videos like the above!) If so please share!

CateC, That was well worth watching,.:-). I have been cooking in hotel/Motels for several years. I never thought about useing there appliances. I carry a small picnic basket with a 4 c. coffee pot, 2 cups, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cream and sugar, salt, pepper,& honey packets. There are some hotel/motels that dosen't have a pot in the rooms, only the lobby, and we like our coffee when we first get up. In a box/small suit case, I used to use an electric skillet, but I now have an electric pressure cook/pan. I take, a spatula, can opener,2 lg.spoons (one sloted),dipper, and silver ware, dish towel 7 cloth. I also take any condiments that I think I'll need just a small amount of to keep from having to buy it, also some shelf food ltems.like spagetti sauce, soup, flour, corn meal ( in case I want to batter something),butter, and shoetening. Since we vacation on a shoe string(very little money), I also prefer my own spagetti. I love grilled cheese & tomato soup, comfort food. We usually try to get a hotel/motel that offers a "free breakfast bar", Eat at resturents that you can take the left overs home, if there are any, or grocery store deli's for food to picnic with or take to the motel room, we only eat out one meal a day. and cook or reheat the left overs for lunch or dinner. Gee, this could be a whole new tread of ideals. if we are in a motel that dosen't have a breakfast bar, I cook it in the room. Thanks, Granna2

I've made ramen noodles in the hot water in the small in room coffee pot. I've also reheated canned spaghetti, ravioli, in the coffee pot. Just stand an open can in the hot water.

Those who forget the pasta are condemned to reheat it.

We try to get a room with a frig in it, and then find the local grocery store.  Then we get stuff from their deli or fresh fruit (like bananas or apples) and bread and drinks.  Carry it back to the room and we've got ourselves a meal or two there in the room.  If there's a microwave there, we can expand the menu to something simple like a one pan meal.  You can pick up containers (or bring them along) pretty cheap.  Happy motel eating on a shoestring!Idea

Looking forward to our next morsel together:)
