Bisquick/Catfish

Hi ya'll,

I was wondering if anyone has used Bisquick as a substitute for flour/cornmeal, in making fried catfish?  Is ithere any recipes or hints you can provide?  Thank you,  Cindy

Hmmm- well in this recipe they do with chicken-

and here are a bunch of great recipes with bisquick and fish. I would look through these recipes for inspiration from other fish/bisquick recipes and see if any of them would work for catfish.

But I don't see a bisquick only catfish recipe- but it doesn't mean it can't be done.

Please let us know what you ended up doing! :)

Sincerely, Cate

Yes, you can use Bisquick instead of flour and corn meal.

Dip the fish in beaten eggs or buttermilk, or brush with mayonnaise, to moisten so the Bisquick will stick to the fish. Let excess drip off. You can add hot sauce or some spicy mustard or Dijon mustard to the mixture, if you like.

Add seasonings to the Bisquick, like salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon-pepper, Cajun/Creole spices, Old Bay seasoning, cayenne pepper, paprika, etc. Coat the moist fish with the seasoned Bisquick.

Coating is easy if you put the dry mixture in a plastic bag and drop the pieces in one at a time and shake, but you can also use a bowl and roll the fish in it. Shake off excess and fry.
