salty soup

I made split pea soup and used a very salty ham as the meat.  How can I make the soup not salty, so it's at least edible?

Try procuitto or use bacon instead!  Both yummy alternatives in pea soup!  Or you can even use turkey ham which is MUCH less salty to any of those things, and healthier, although you cannot taste the difference especially in soups!

You could make another unsalted batch then combine the two.  Freeze half for later.

Try this trick:  peel a medium-sized white potato and add it whole to the soup.  After the potato has cooked (about 20 minutes), remove it from the soup.  The potato will absorb a lot of the salt.
