What is a fun, new kitchen gadget for the adventurous chef?

Hello- My Mom is an excellent cook and she loves to try new things.  Some examples...she had paella at a restaurant and so she bought a paella pan and has now perfected the recipe.  She recently went out for mexican food and decided she wanted to start making stuffed jalepenos, so she bought a jalapeno pepper roaster and corer and started making stuffed jalepenos.

I like to get her cool new gadgets for Mother's Day or her birthday, along with a recipe.  I'm running out of ideas though!  Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi happycook6:

How fun! I think it's great you're thinking ahead.

Hmm... Here are a few ideas.

1. My DH and I are loving our new waffle maker. I love trying all types of recipes in it. I've made with Bisquick, from scratch, and even from cookie dough.

2. One of my most requested recipes is guacamole: So you could get things to make the "perfect" batch. My recipe is very close to this: http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/guacamole/3a8001fd-c26f-4047-a5f9-09393db4b882

Anyways... there are so many cute gadget things that make it easier.

3. Or if your mom's a baker, there are plenty of cute things to check out.

I thought this was a fun idea: http://www.bettycrockerstore.com/p-159613-2740%202740%202682-pie-Bakeware_Sassafras-La-Cloche-Brick-Oven-Natural-11-in.aspx?Ntt=pie&Ntx=mode%20matchall&Ns=SortByAll|1||SubClass||BrandName||ProductGroupName||Price||Color&Nty=1&Ntk=All&back=c-2740%2b2740+2740+2682-pie-Bakeware.aspx%3fNtt%253dpie%2526Ntx%253dmode%2bmatchall%2526Ns%253dSortByAll%257c1%257c%257cSubClass%257c%257cBrandName%257c%257cProductGroupName%257c%257cPrice%257c%257cColor%2526Page%253d-1%2526Nty%253d1%2526Ntk%253dAll

My final ideas are:

4. What needs replacing? Cookie sheets? Fancy Kitchen Towels? Look around what you mom uses a ton but could use some updating. Something she would never spend on herself.

5. Pick a new ingredient to work this. Something that she loves (ie... it she loves mushrooms- we have plenty of cook books that could be an interest. Here is just one of them: http://www.bettycrockerstore.com/p-262764-0-fungis_Mushroom-Feast.aspx?Ntt=fungis&Ntx=mode%20matchall&Nty=1&Ntk=All&back=%2fProductList.aspx%3fPage%253d-1%2526Ntt%253dfungis%2526Ntx%253dmode%2bmatchall%2526Nty%253d1%2526N%253d0%2526Ntk%253dAll

You could get all the stuff for one recipe along with the book and make a "Gift of Time"- Meaning, let's plan to make this together.

6. Canning is being hotter trend these days. It could be a cute theme to work with: http://www.bettycrockerstore.com/ProductList.aspx?N=2740+2740+4294957493&Ntt%3dcanning%26Ntx%3dmode+matchall%26Nty%3d1%26Ntk%3dAll

Also, for more ideas... you can check the Betty Crocker Store. I thought this link might inspire some themes. http://www.bettycrockerstore.com/c-2740+2681%204294967223-Specialty-Electrics.aspx?Page=-1&Ns=SortByAll|1||SubClass||BrandName||ProductGroupName||Price||Color

Please let us know what you end up doing! Hope this helps or inspires!

Sincerely, Cate

hi happycook6! i adore kitchen gadgets that do the job. my fav new one is "the magic dough mat." it is the most non-stick surface i've ever rolled pie crust on.

of course i also adore the gadget i designed: rose's heavenly cake strips--silicone strips that encircle the cake pan helping to prevent doming and drying out of the sides of the cake.

the "beater blade" that replace the flat beater on a stand mixer is invaluable as it means hardly ever having to scrape the sides of the bowl.

I have always enjoyed browsing in kitchen stores & any place that has kitchen gadgets.  Some of the fun things I've seen are a jalapeno pepper corer, a drizzle spoon ideal for drizzling icing & sauces, fresh herb keeper, saute tweezers, a non stick trio lasagna pan (a great invention for those who deal with people who like vegetarian lasagna & meaty lasagna), floral mini prep bowls and floral baking dishes.
