Food that is hard to find.

I like to cook, but I am a single parent and am not home as often as I would like to be. I would like to try a lot more different and healthier foods both for myself and my young toddler. However, often when i go to try out a new recipe, I cannot find the ingredients for it in the grocery store. I have asked for help in the store but often the people working there have no idea what I am talking about. I like to try new recipes, but that is hard to do when the grocery store doesn't carry the ingredients I need. Often, it is hard to just find vegetables like eggplant or even items like barley or bay leaves. I live in a small town, and other than the grocery store I am not sure where else to look. Would the health food store perhaps have more of a selection when it comes to healthy foods? If anyone has any advice, please feel free to offer it to me. I'm desperate for a change of menu!

Hello there.  You should be able to find bay leaves in the spice section, barley would be in the aisle where rice is kept.  Egg Plant shoulld be in the produce section, but I am sure you know that.

 Hope this helps.

Thanks. I do know where that stuff is, but I guess the problem is the small town selections. :) Seems like the grocery store in my town has nothing more than the basic selections, and unless I feel like traveling about an hour than I'm out of luck. Thanks for the tip, though, and I didn't know where the barley was so it was helpful.
