I have two recipes to share. The first one is from my Betty Crocker Cookbook (tenth printing 1983, copyright 1978, 1969, pg. 339). The second one I believe is the most common in terms of flavor that most people are familiar with. It has been very successful for me when following the recipe exactly.

Oatmeal-Chocolate Clusters
From Betty Crocker

1 pkg (6 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips
1/3 cup margarine or butter
16 large marshmallows
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups oats
1 cup flaked coconut

Heat chocolate chips, margarine and marshmallows in 3-qt saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth; remove from heat. Mix in vanilla, oats and coconut. Drop mixture by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper and shape into clusters with hands. Refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes. About 3 1/2 dozen.

No Bakes

Dash salt
2 cups sugar
3 Tbsp cocoa
1 stick butter or margarine
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup peanut butter
3 cups uncooked quick oats
1 tsp vanilla

Boil sugar, cocoa, butter and milk ONE minute. Remove from heat, add peanut butter, oats and vanilla. Pour in well buttered square pan or drop by spoonfuls on wax paper or buttered dish. Refrigerate until firm.

Ramons, The 2nd. recipe that A.B.C. listed is like the one that I have. I do sometimes use chunky P.B. or mix the oats 1/2 and 1/2, quick cooking and whole, for a chewer cookie. Lots of luck and let us know if you liked it,:-)   Granna2

2 c sugar                             1/2 c milk                               1/2 c margarine

Boil hard for 1 minute

3 c oats                               3 T. cocoa                                1/2 c coconut

1/2 c walnuts (optional)                      raisins (optional)

Put on wazed paper in small lumps let cool and it's ready to eat.

Variations: replace cocoa with peanut butter or whatever you want to change the flavor.

Hope this works for you Sandy

They say that varity is the spice of life and I like lots of varity (different spices) in my sourdough. So I live a pretty spicy life. LOL just me - Sandy

One thing I do that is faster, pour them on a greased cookie sheet and cut with a pizza cutter when cool, saves time and labor,Wink.  Granna2
