Hamburger Helper Rice Oriental

I have been surfing the web to find sources of the Rice Oriental flavor of Hamburger Helper, only to find it is discontinued.  The amount of other people I came across in my search who are as chagrined as I am about its loss is noteworthy, and I wanted to make TPTB aware of how greatly it is missed by many.  It is actually a meal I would make if my stomach was upset, as something about it had a soothing effect on my system (medicinal argument?).  Pleeeeze bring it back!

I agree. I remember it being my favorite growing up as well. i have tried to make it on my own with the brown gravy mix, but it's not the same. Please bring it back. Until reading this, i didn't realize it had been discontinued. There was one store i was able to find it, but not anymore. As my Birthday request, please bring it back....

I was wondering if you could please share with me the recipe that you have for the rice oriental because my husband has Crohn's disease and that meal made his stomach feel better when it was upset.  I really wish they would bring back rice oriental.

I would really appreciate it if I could get that recipe.  The rice oriental Hamburger Helper was my favorite!  I have been stopping at various stores trying to find it and didn't realize that it had been discontinued until I got on this website.  What a huge disappointment!  I have really been craving it the last few months!

My mom gave me a wonderful recipe that is pretty similar to the rice oriental hamburger helper. Every time my boyfriend and I go to the store and buy hamburger helper he complains that they don't sell the rice oriental anymore. Hopefully this recipe will help...

1/2 cup of chopped onion

1/2 cup of chopped celery

2 cans of chicken rice soup

2 cans of cream of mushroom soup

1 can of minute rice

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 can water

mix all ingredients together in a cassarole dish

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes

10 minutes for its done sprinkle chow mein noodles on top

serve with soy sauce and more chow mein noodles or my boyfriend likes it with ketchup

ENJOY!

I am very disappointed to find out that Rice Oriental has been discontinued. It was the only Hambeger Helper product that I would buy. I will try this receipe to see if it is close. I wish that you would bring this product back.

Add me to the list of people who have searched in vain for HHRO, only to disappointedly discover that it's no longer available at ANY location.

That said, the recipe PattyatBettyCrocker provided is close.  I think, anyway.  I had to make do with what I had on hand, and this is what I did.  (Also, mine is a tiny bit healthier and I make some substitutions; see notes at end.)

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Lb. ground beef

  • Garlic Powder

  • Onion Salt

  • 1 T. oyster sauce

  • 2 T. soy sauce

  • 1 can mushroom gravy

  • 2 C. cooked rice

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cook ground beef.  Season to taste with garlic powder and onion salt.  Drain.

  2. Stir in oyster sauce.

  3. Stir in soy sauce.

  4. Add in cooked rice and gravy; heat through.

NOTES

  • I used ground turkey and brown rice for a slightly healthier version.  As such, I didn't need to drain the ground turkey because it renders much less grease.

  • I used cooked rice because I already had it in the fridge.  You can modify the recipe with Patty's version if you'd prefer to make this a true "one pot" meal.

  • I've made this with both canned mushroom gravy and canned beef gravy.  The mushroom gravy version provided a better, more authentic HHRO flavor.  (I don't care for whole mushrooms, however, which is why I left out the sliced mushrooms called for in the original recipe.)

  • I think the oyster sauce is the "secret ingredient" that gives this recipe that signature HHRO flavor, but this dish can be made without it.

  • I like to add about a teaspoon of teriyaki sauce to each serving, just because I love the flavor.  However, at that point this becomes such a sodium-rich dish that it might be too much for some people.

I'm so happy to have found this site so that I can make my own HHRO!

Because my husband loves Rice Oriental so much I am willing to try out this recipie.  I am with the rest of you in that I don't understand why they would quit making something that so many are missing.  My husband always asks have you found any more.  Now, I will have to tell him they discontinued making and he will complain more than me (but just to me and those he works with, not on this website).  I agree with the others that most of the Hamburger Helper items out there are not very good and I only have 1 other one that I buy.  It would be nice if you would even consider doing a special limited time manufacturing of it.  I am sure with all of us here, we would buy everything you made.

If you have this recipe you would mind sharing it with me?  I have two young boys that insist this is a favorite of theirs and upset they took it off the market.  I would like to fix it for them once again.

I used to have my wife keep a few boxes of this handy at all times.  It was impossible to find but it was by far the best HH available.  I won't purchase any other kind, PLEASE bring this back! Or at least offer this online for those people dying to have it back.  I'd love to see anybodies recipe for this, can't get that craving to go away...thanks!
