Shrinking Cakes???

I thought that I had possibly made a mistake when I made a 13x9 cake and it came out smaller than usual, so I grabbed another box from the pantry (same cake, bought earlier) and imagine my surprise when it was larger (the package) than the other by a few ounces, so it made the 13x9 cake I was used to making.  Why would they decide that they need to shrink the cakes?  It implies that they make the same size of cakes, cupcakes, etc.  but it is obvious the size difference.  The new box used less oil and water, but the same amount of eggs.  The first cake did not fill a 13x9 pan, so I can't imagine it making the same cupcakes, etc.  Are they shrinking all of their mixes and charging the same?

I noticed about 6 weeks ago that the box was smaller and checked the ounces. Sure enough, the new boxes, higher price, are 15.25 ounces. The previous size was 18.25 ounces. I stocked up on 18.25 and will start baking from scratch. The 9x13 pans accomodate scratch cake recipes. I refuse to buy 2 mixes and make a smaller pan or cup cakes with the overage of 2 mixes. Besides spending that much for a cake does not fit my purse or my lifestyle.

Hi all!

This is one of the reasons I bake most cakes from scratch.  I don't have to worry about the cake batter being too little for the cake pan or to bake the extra batter as cupcakes.  Cakes from scratch taste better too.  Have a great evening!

They did the same with Miracle Whip - which I will continue to buy because there is no substitute - but I do have choices for cakes and other items.  As BLT said scratch tastes better anyway.  I have several quick recipes I can use as well as a "Homemade White Cake Mix."  Nothing is more disappointing as having a cake turn out bad because the product you bought wasn't what you thought it was. Sad

Hi! I have to agree, what a disappointment with the higher prices and less product! I live overseas so Betty Crocker mixes don't exist here, maybe that's for the better for me? Since all my cakes have to be made from scratch and most of the recipes I have are either sponge cakes or dense and dry, could I have some good moist ones that any of you have? I'd really appreciate it!! Thanks!!!
