Expiration date of betty crocker decorating icing

I have a couple of tubes of betty crocker decorating icing that were opened (and used) probably about 9 months ago. I want to use them again but there is no expiration dates on any of the tubes. Some blog websites say that they have a 2 year life after being opened but I wanted to check before using. Please help!

Thanks,

Jamiepostle

Hello Jamie,
I am in General Mills Consumer Services.
The Betty Crocker Decorating Icing is a product made by a licensee called Signature Brands.

Having seen your inquiry I contacted the licensee to inquire about expiration dates of the decorator icing.  The shelf life of the Betty Crocker Decorator Icing made by Signature Brands is 1, 2, or 3 years depending on the product you have.  There is a production code on the product in the format L###L.  The first digit is a letter which designates the month, the second digit is a number which designates the year, the next two digits are numbers that are the date of the month, and the last digit is a letter which stands for the shift.    (Example: A901B means a product was made on January 01, 2009)

You can get specific information about the specific product you have by contacting Signature Brands.  Providing the product upc/bar code will help identify the product you have.

I had the same question about opened Betty Crocker decorator icing. I just finished talking to a representative at the Signature Company. She informed me that the frosting in question had an UNOPENED shelf life of from one to three years depending on the bar code information, but only TWO MONTHS of opened shelf life. It was a perfect product for a children's cookie decorating event, but I think it is necessary to have the expiration information on the container. I would not have purchased six tubes had I kinown it had to be used in that period of time. Hope this helps.

I have 4 cupcake icing easy flow cans that I have been trying to find information out about the expiration date.  I agree - these products "should" have a date on every one of them and readable/understandable to customers!  I have been on the computer for about 1/2 hour now looking this up and getting several different answers.  Which one is/was the correct answer?!  The icing itself looks good, smells good and tastes good still but will I be getting a bunch of school kids sick because it really wasn't good anymore?  Betty Crocker "should" fix this problem ASAP so emergency rooms aren't filling up with sick people.  Also, I did check the bottom of the can for the letters and numbers that supposedly represents the born date but those aren't readable.  They are smeared together.  These aren't cheap cans for me to purchase and I too can't throw money in the garbage can especially since I use them often but never use the whole can at once.  This is just a suggestion/comment for Betty Crocker!  I'm going to attempt to use these cans anyway and hopefully I don't get anyone sick.  Good luck to everyone who's trying to find out the same information.  ThanksConfused
