Anyone else noticed a difference in the taste and texture? :(
YES! They're terrible now! We loved, loved, loved Cheesy Hashbrowns and had them almost once a week! Now the potatoes are skinny and flavorless and the sauce (which was the absolute best part!) is totally different! What have they done? I want the old ingredients back--I'll pay whatever they need to charge for it if it's a matter of cost containment. I'm going to complain to them. I'll let you know if I hear anything back.
I couldn't agree with you more! I used to love them too and now they are totally different especially the potatoes and cheese sauce...it's not the same at all. It used to be my favorite meal to make at home and now I will not be making them again unless they go back to their original ingredients...whatever needs to happen to get that done, count me in!
I agree completely. It appears that Betty Crocker exercised the old goverment motto on this product; "if it ain't broke, fix it until it is!" This was my number one favorite until they changed the recipe. Now, you get more potatoes than before (which overwhelms what little meat you have in the pot), the potatoes themselves are almost impossible to cook completely leaving a raw texture in your mouth. The cheese sauce is also a step backwards. Why in the world would they change something like this?!!! At any rate, the box I have in the cupboard will be my last until they change the recipe back!
I'm glad to know that it is not just me that has noticed the change. I did complain & received a reply that there has been no change in the formulation of the product & was sent coupons for free HH. I don't want free products, I want them to admit the change & fix it. Hopefully if enough of us complain something might change.
While I've never tried the Cheesy Hashbrowns(by the posts, I wish I had they sound popular!!) I grew up on the originals: Chili Mac, Cheeseburger Mac and Beef Noodle. I'm telling you all, THEY have CHANGED also a while back. The Chili Mac NEVER had taco seasoning in it. I really do not like the changes in any food that is good. If it is bad and not selling, then by all means, either try a different formula or get rid of it. But by the looks of this post, the Hashbrowns were really good so why change?
Kraft has changed things also. They have changed their original Ranch and Catalina dressings!! WHY???
Yes. Yes. Yes!
Earlier in the summer of 2008 I had purchased a dozen boxes of Hamburger Helper Cheesy Hashbrowns from a grocery store that was going out of business. That's how much I love it. Well, I finally ran out and bought some new boxes in January 2009, got home, and began cooking. The first thing I noticed was the tiny potato shreds compared to the "old" recipe, and the fact the water had been increased for 1 2/3 cup to 2 cups. I knew the recipe by heart so was a little annoyed that it had changed.
After cooking these up the sauce stood out as overly thick and very salty and nowhere near like the old recipe.
In short, this Hamburger Helper has been absolutely ruined by whatever changes have been. I haven't written an official letter but will do so. My favorite (and really only) HH has been utterly destroyed.
Very upset.
YUCK!!!
I used to love them, now they taste like total crap. They need to use the old recipie again...
DISAPPOINTED!!!!
My wife and I bought 20 boxes of cheesy hash browns the other day. We made a box for dinner tonight and we had to throw
it out. What happened??? This use to be our favorite dish, now I wouldnt even give what we threw out to the dogs!!!! Now we
are stuck with the other 19 boxes of SALTY BROWNS!!! YUCK! Please Please Please bring back the old recipe!!
