I don't know if it does or not but my Mom had a really good date nut bar recipe that was pretty easy.  In fact, I was thinking about making some for the holidays.  If Mom can find it would you like me to send it to you?

Try visiting tasteofhome dot com and searching for Date Bars; there are 10 date bar recipes listed there.  Maybe you'll find one you like.

I would be so thankful to receive a recipe for the Date bar squares. My husband and I so enjoyed the mix that you now can't buy. I have often wondered why they stopped it.  My E-mail is ******************** thanks again!

I am hoping that your email about the recipe is the one on this chat place.

I also miss the date bar mix along with my daughter and her son, it was so good and wish Betty
Crocker would bring it back.  Today my grandson is putting together my t.v. table and installing a new flat screen that the whole family got for hubby's 70th birthday.  I am attempting to make date bars for him, oh how I hope it is just about the same.

Please Betty Crocker reconsider your product of this and bring it back.

About the date bar recipe, I see there is more than one and not sure which one to use, is anyone out there tried all and declared one the closest to B.Crocker mix.  It was so easy and delicious,  I would buy boxes and boxes of it.I do know that it became expensive toward the end of production, but it was well worth it in the day of the prices of just one single bar or cookie at bakeries.  Just buying a couple bags of dates is close to $6.00 dollars.

Hi. I am replying to any and all that want to replicate the date bar recipe.  I have been working on this for a while now and think I have hit it, if not - terribly close, close enough to count! This recipe is a 'keeper' according to my husband and friends.  If you would like to see it, let me know. Don't know if there is a way to personally send it due to email privacy, but I can post it somewhere - just tell me how!!!!  I don't have a website or a blogsite.  I am 68 yrs old, live in Bradenton, FL, bake for my own pleasure, and from time to time help some of the younger ladies at church with pointers or 'coaching'.  God bless,

Okay, just be sure and let me know what you think of them....... I've had a number of raves, and only one saying 'too sweet', but if I remember correctly, the BC mix was kinda sweet, too.  Here it is: (couldn't get to single space, hope it comes out okay)

MY DATE BAR RECIPE – JANET JOHANSEN – 4/19/11

FILLING:

           1-1/2 cups water

          3 cups chopped pitted dates

¼ cup sugar (3 Tbsp if using the dates that are coated w/sugar)

¼ cup grated (or fine) coconut (optional)

½ tsp lemon or vanilla extract

Cook the first 4 ingredients at low simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring well.  Be careful not to burn!  Let cool to room temperature.  Puree in a mini processor or similar, if desired (I did).  Add extract.

CRUST:

          1 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 cup whole wheat or pastry flour (I used pastry flour)

          1-1/2 cups oatmeal, not instant

1 cup brown sugar, packed

          ½ tsp salt

          ½ tsp baking soda

3/4 cup butter or butter blend

Preheat oven to 350°.  Lightly grease a 9 x 13 metal baking pan.

Combine flours, oatmeal, baking soda and salt in large bowl, stirring to blend.  Cut in butter and shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives until clumps form.  Refrigerate until filling is cool.

Put half crust mixture in bottom of prepared pan, pat down.  Spread date filling over this, and then sprinkle remaining crust on top.  Pat down.  Bake 25 – 30 minutes or until light golden brown.  Mark squares while still warm, then let cool.  Makes about 36.

God is good. All the time.

I have also been looking for my moms recipe and I have not been able to fine it.  I can remember growing up and mom making the date nut bars and they were sooo good.  My mom is deceased now so I cann't ask her how she made them.  If your mom can find her recipe I would love to have it.  I am sure they will be as good as I remember.  Who knows it could be the same recipe.   Thanks so much

My mother-in-law had a great recipe but I wasn't able to locate it after she passed.  I'd love to try your recipe too.

I am sorry to say the Betty Crocker Date Bar Mix has been discontinued. I am sorry for the disappointment.

11/19/2007 10:20 AM

i had a hard time finding this when it was available-no wonder they discontinued it when the stores wouldn't give it space on their shelf-it was the best and so easy to make-why not bring it back for limited time such as at the holidays?

11/23/2007 8:45 PM

I agree - my family and friends loved to have these on the cookie plate.
