Hi flourman, I never though of that?!? I do know that a farmer friend of ours said that the cost of planting and growing the corn is up by 300%. Think about that in terms of what corn will cost us this year!!!!

 Hey granna2....All indications I've seen say food prices are related to fuel prices. Also this year may turn out to be a bumper crop year for most states. Nevertheless food prices will increase.Now is a good time to invest in General Mills..

hi flourman, A friend of mine and I was talking about this and neither one of us knows "anything" about investing, although that sounds like it would be a good investment. Is it one of those where you would buy, now(cheap) and sell later, hopefull high?

 Yepper...thats the way its done...buy now when its cheap and sell later when it triples..

hi, I may of said this before, I shop a lot at Save'A'Lot grocery store and I have watched price go up anywhere from .05 to $1.00 per item The canned fruit took a .29 cent jump!. It amazes me, because you "know" it didn't cost them much to ship that item, it's not like their shipping just 1 item I think that the companies raising their price big jumps are taking advantage of the gas prices and us, but what we gonna do about it? You still got to eat. I have started stocking up

Hey flourman,  I've been angry about this stuff for quite awhile.  In fact, This probably won't show up on this thread, but OH WELL!!!!!  While Bush has been "occupied" with Iraq, this country's entire economy has gone bellyside up!  Big business knew that while his attention was elsewhere over a personal vendetta, that they could make even more money off of the consumer.  As if they don't make enough, especially the gas companies.  Unbelievable!!!  At least there are still a few corporations that still care about their customers.  Like General mills, as you said.  They're smart enough to know that if you let the consumer know that they care, by not raising prices to riduculousness, that they'll make more anyway.  Once you have loyalty with your consumers, even if they can't spend as much as they usually do, you know that they'll stay and make it up when things improve.  I'll never understand big business, maybe that's why I'm one of the little guys!  I've always said that my chances of going hungry or being homeless are much higher than being shot by a terrorist!  Hunger and homelessness are more of a reality!  I've blown enough steam, thanks for the topic flourman!

Hello, Chicagosinger! I think you need to study your Civics! The Democratic Congress voted in the right of the less fortuntate persons to each have a home that they could not afford. By passing the bill allowing the lenders to lower their standards for a loan. This created the present state of the Banking Problem! Banks loaned money for mortages for the persons, who could not afford them, due to the lowering of the standards. Thank you Congress for looking out for yourselves! Before you go to judging this -----know the facts! Yes Wallstreet and CEO greed put us here, but we voted for the Congress that allowed them to do this! President Bush warned all of us about doing this, but he was out-numbered! Let us not lay fault to our President! He is only one man in a sea of so many. Also, McCain warned of this disaster years ago. Greed of many Americans is to blame, but let us move on and pay for this. We are to blame. Thank you Democratics! You call this war "Personal Vendetta"----well, I hold a personal vendetta against those who attacked us-------We cannot just listen to idle gossip, but we have to know the facts!  I believe that this war is justified, and sending our troops to defend our country was a hard decision, but the right one. Now we must support our boys over there and furnish them with whatever they need to do the job. Afterall, they are doing this for us. When the region in Iraq becomes stable, then we can pull out, but not until then! I for one don't like paying the price, but will do this for what is right for our nation and our people! So, are we going to talk about food prices and strategy for weathering this storm or what?

Hi Carnation 1, first of all, welcome to the site!  I'm sorry if I offended you, I certainly didn't mean to!  I stand corrected.  You're absolutely right, I don't know much about civics and politics for that matter.  For whatever reasons we are over there fighting in Iraq, I didn't mean for you to think I didn't support our young men and women, who are dying or getting maimed.  I have quite a few friends who have gone to fight.  Some haven't come back and some have, but they're hurting.  I definately agree with finding and punishing those who attacked on our own american soil! Between my husband and I, we lost 5 friends, 3 of whom I grew up with.  I just question the method, and how this could've gotten to this point with our economy.  You're right, we did vote these "civic servants" in office, so it's our fault.  Here's the thing, each and every one of us has to choose during elections, who we think are the right people to put into office.  It's hard to do with the mud-slinging and all the rhetoric, but we TRY to make the right choices.  Here's what I do know are facts;  I recently found myself disabled and in a wheelchair for the rest of my life, and have been fighting Social Security the last 2 years for MY benefits. We have been evicted out of every single apartment in the last 6 1/2 years, because I can't work.  My husband works anywhere from 10- 18 hours a day, usually six days a week.  And we still can't pay our rent on time.  The government says we make too much money!  We make on an average $500.00 to $300.00 per week.  Then we subtract gas, and food!  I have had to jump through hoops to get any kind of help from the government and in fact, spent 18 months in a nursing home just so I could get healthcare.  Most people own homes.  It may be our fault because neither of us choose to go to college, but the "American Dream" will NOT happen for us.  That's what I know!  Honestly, I think this was a great topic to discuss, because we can talk about "food prices and strategy" for weathering the storm.  And I believe it will help many of us to deal with the problems it has caused us, if nothing else help us feel better and hopefully, strengthen our community here at BC.  BUT, my husband and I have been talking about this and racking our brains for over 6 years, trying to get out of this hole that SOMEBODY put us in.  It's very possible that those people succeded in what they were trying to do when they attacked us, but we have each other.  And they CANNOT take that from us, we are americans and we fight back!  I guess I'm trying to find a way of defending what I said, but maybe we all just need is to understand that 9-11 had a different affect on each of us, because that's what this countrys about.  Individuals under one NATION!  Please, let's stick together and support each other here on this site.  We're ALL great people!  I guess I needed to blow up a bit.  I truly hope I haven't offended anyone, I really didn't mean to.  And if I have I apologize!  Good night, and have a great day tommorow!

While everyone was busy tasteing cookies and candies.. I took the necessary steps to ensure survival..LOL. I bought close to $1000.00 in dried foods from the net! 

In my town a Ma n Pa pizza shop advertized the cost of a sheet pizza with 2 dozen wings and a quart of soda for $ 55.95 + tax +delivery. Total cost could add up to $70.00! Six months ago a major supplier of pizza in my town announced that the price of flour went up so they bumped the price up more than 15%. Price gouging is rampid in my area.
