Cooking & Baking with Kids

From breakfast to dinner and lunchboxes to kid-friendly snacks. How do you keep it fun for kids in the kitchen?

What are the best summertime treats?

Last time I was home my niece was enjoying a homemade apple juice pop on a hot day. My sister said it was watered down apple juice. Our mom’s plastic popsicle treats live on! My favorite flavor mom made for us was banana. The recipe couldn’t be easier!

3-4 Ripe Bananas
1 package of Vanilla or Banana Pudding
And the amount of milk that is required for the box of pudding.

Blend and pour! Smile

My elementary friends still talk about this recipe when I see them. I remember helping my mom pour them in to the containers. They have more modern looking versions:

I also have memories of making sun tea in the summer time. Recently, my sister did a smart thing when making ice tea. She mixed two types of ice tea (Lemon Herbal and Black Tea). This was nice because it had enough flavor so you really didn’t need to add sugar.

Here are some other ideas for the summer that are easy and yummy.
1.    Throw your mini yogurts in the freezer for a couple of hours… dessert just became more interesting.
2.    Don’t turn on the oven, make your homemade Chex Mix in the slow cooker!

3.  Fresh Fruit Salad. I loved using the melon baller for fresh watermelon! Yum! http://www.bettycrockerstore.com/p-120213-0-mellon-baller_Norpro-Melon-Ballers-3-pc.aspx?Ntt=mellon%20baller&Ntx=mode%20matchall&Nty=1&Ntk=All

What treats do your kids love making in the summertime? Please share your recipes, tips and tricks!

I really like yogurt when it's hot outside. Two of my favorites are the Yoplait Delights (chocolate and raspberry flavor) and banana pudding with vanilla wafers. Yum!

Everything in moderation... including moderation.

My favorite is a frozen drink made in the blender. Buy a bag of mixed frozen fruit and juice (orange or apple work fine) Add 8 ounces of fruit to blender then about 4 ounces of juice and 2 packages of artificial sweetener, blend till consistency of soft ice cream. if it doesnt blend well add a little more juice. To make it even healthier you can add 2 tablespoons of plain or vanilla yogurt.

Loving life means loving people.
