Cooking & Baking with Kids

From breakfast to dinner and lunchboxes to kid-friendly snacks. How do you keep it fun for kids in the kitchen?

Kids are home from school

Any ideas for healthy easy lunches for the kids? I'm trying to avoid too much mess and to much kitchen heating up. I know, picky, but I'd rather be playing with the kids than cleaning the kitchen. We're all getting tired of grilled cheese and popcorn chicken. Thanks Gerolyn

My kids love to help make lunch.  We use paper plates so no dishes.  They love sandwiches with lean deli meats and carrot chips ( Found next to carrots in produce) fat free veggie dip and cottage cheese with fresh fruit or fruit with yogurt.  To save even more time I buy frozen fruit and then thaw what we need in the microwave with splenda and cinnamon sprinkled on it for a "mock pie"  we add some yogurt or pudding on top for the "ala mode"  kids love it!   We have also made macaroni and cheese and then added frozen veggies to the macaroni while it is cooking and when you mix the cheese part add a can of tuna or even have used a can of chicken or turkey.  For faster mac n cheese use microwave singles and let the kids add their own veggies or meat.

Pizza, We fixed pizza on toasted bread, bagels, english muffins, and even raisin rounds. After toasting in toaster, put on sauce (either pizza or spagetti) then pepperoni, cheese, what ever they like ( have it chopped up in bouls) then put under the boiler for a few min. untill cheese melts.Celery stuffed with cream cheese or peanut butter, even put raisins on it for "ants on a log",Smile.
