Healthy Cooking & Eating

Find out what everyone is saying about good-for-you foods, healthy lifestyles, diets and nutrition.

How do you make party menus healthier?

This past weekend-  I made the "Healthified" Cheesy Potatoes for the extended family. And you know what? I thought they tasted just as good as the original recipe. In fact, nobody noticed- they just talked about how great it was. How do you make healthier choices during holidays and celebrations (When it's so easy to break our diets and healthy habits!)? Please share your healthy party loved recipes here!

Sincerely, Cate

Interesting that you say that you didn't tell anyone that it was "healthy.' I've found that when I don't tell people that it's a 'healthy' recipe, they usually don't notice. The power of the mind!

I think the biggest struggle is that people see 'healthy' as no flavor. That is not true! I love the Eat Better America Mexican Lasagna recipe so much. I've made it a few times and it's always been very successful with guests. (it's also really good for leftovers) http://www.eatbetteramerica.com/recipes/global-flavors/mexican-lasagna.aspx

Using fresh ingredients like herbs and citrus always add a lot of flavor without the fat and calories, too.

Dessert is probably where most people get stuck - I happen to love sorbet more than ice cream. Just add fresh fruit and a little sugar and you've got a sweet-tooth satisfying dessert.
