My mother used to make this wierd desert. It was something like Cottage cheese, Jello POWDER and  ......I think cool whip.

Has anyone else heard of this? If so, remind me how to make it.

Here are two Jello salads that were very popular years ago. I still love both.

Lime Jello Salad

1 3oz box lime Jello
1 cup boiling water
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup celery, diced
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
1/3 cup milk
2 tbsp sugar
1 small can pineapple, crushed or tidbits
1 cup cottage cheese

Combine Jello powder and boiling water, stirring until dissolved. Cool to room temperature.
When cool, add mayonnaise, celery, pecans, milk, sugar and pineapple with juice. Stir until smooth. Fold in cottage cheese. Pour into an 8x8 or similar serving dish. Refrigerate until firm. Pretty when cut in squares and served on bed of lettuce.

Orange Salad

1 (16 ounce) tub Cool Whip
1 (7 ounce) box orange Jello, dry
1 (16 ounce) carton cottage cheese
1 (16 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
1 (16 ounce) can Mandarin oranges, drained
1 cup chopped pecans

Mix ingredients and refrigerate.
* Pretty when served on lettuce and garnished with thin orange slice.

You have the basics!

Cottage Cheese

Cool Whip

Jello (most prefer lime or orange)

mandarin oranges (drained)

crushed pineapple (drained)

Optional (Walnuts)

Combine all ingrediants together and refrigerate!

This is very refreshing for summer time.  Many people that don't like cottage cheese actually like this one!

This is delish & easy. When I got the recipe back in 1981 we were ststioned at Elmendorf AFB. It was called Watergate Salad & made with green Jello. I don't get the relationship with Nixon, but it is good ^_^. Gabbinwithu has the recipe I used to make.

Or, I remember the basics above, but instead of the dry jello, use dry pistachio pudding mix.

I'VE HAD THIS RECIPE FOR ABOUT 30 YEARS AND RECEIVED IT FROM MY MOTHER-IN - LAW. WE ALSO USE DRY PISTACHIO PUDDING MIX AND NO COTTAGE CHEESE.

WATERGATE SALAD

9 OZ COOL WHIP

1 CAN PINEAPPLE (CRUSHED) - SMALL & JUICE

1 CUP MINI MARSHMALLOWS (COLORED)

1/2 PACKAGE PISTACHIO PUDDING

1/4 CUP NUT MEATS (CHOPPED)

MIX ALL INGREDIENTS TOGETHER. MAKE EARLY IN THE DAY OR NIGHT BEFORE AND KEEP REFRIGERATED.

Was their one with the cottage cheese? with pistachio pudding?

This is the Watergate Salad I remember my aunt giving to me back in the mid 70's. Thank heaven somebody had it because I bought all the ingredients today, but forgot exactly how to make it! Stick out tongue I've made it since then, but not for a while.

Iam looking for Jello Recipes of all kinds, but especially one that my grandmother use to make with butter milk as one of the ingredients

Jewel, maybe this recipe is similar.  It is great with pineapple or mandarin oranges. You can also add mini marshmallows or chopped pecans.

Jello Buttermilk Salad

1 can (20 oz )crushed pineapple
1 box (6oz) peach or orange flavored jello
2 cups buttermilk
1 tub (8oz) Cool Whip

Bring pineapple, with juice, to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in jello until dissolved. Stir in buttermilk then pour into serving dish. Refrigerate a few minutes until cool. Fold in Cool Whip and refrigerate until set.

This is one of my favorite jello salads. I made some again last night and added finely chopped celery. I love the crunch it gives. I also only used 1/2 cup sugar and I used sugar-free jello and diet Coke.

Cherry Coke Jello Salad

2 cans dark, seedless cherries
1 cup sugar
2 small boxes cherry Jello
1 can crushed pineapple, drained
12 oz. Coca-Cola
1 cup pecans, chopped

Combine cherries with juice and sugar in a sauce pan. Cook until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add jello, stirring until it dissolves. Add pineapple, Coca-Cola, and nuts. Pour into a 9 x 13 inch pan. Refrigerate until set.

that Jello Buttermilk Salad looks awesome! I just finished off the Buttermilk in the fridge making Soda Bread today, but I am going to try it tomorrow. Thanks for all the awesome recipes you post!

I have to do the dishes so I can cook the next meal!

When i was a kid back in the 70's, my grandmother and aunt made a Jello salad, it had:

cooked rice, crushed pineapple, marshmallows, jello (usually orange or lime), Dream Whip(cool whip works too)chopped pecans.

It was very good.  But, as my aunt got older, she would forget  to  cook the rice long enough, which made for a rather chewy dessert. LOL

My grandmother used to make a desert like this when I was a child. She used the dry Jello, any flavor (I always liked strawberry or raspberry), a tub of Cool Whip, drained crushed pineapple, and a container of cottage cheese. We always make it for holidays & rarely are there leftovers. We never really had a name for it so a few years ago, we started calling it Jello Stuff. Everyone loves it.

My Grandmother passed down this jello salad/dessert that was a Thanksgiving tradition, and the only name we ever had for it was pink salad.  It was made with cottage cheese, evaporated milk, chopped maraschino cherries, crushed pineapple, cherry jello.  Over the years I have also made the same recipe but with green maraschino cherries and lime jello.  Does this sound like the recipe you are looking for?  I'll check back later on this msg board, and if you want it I'll post it.  I'm at work right now so I don't have access to the recipe.

My mom and grandmother have been making a similiar recipe using lime jello. I think(?) the Watergate name actually comes from a hotel in New York called Watergate. Don't think there is any relationship to Nixon's Watergate. LOL. Here is our recipe.

Make up 2 boxes lime jello. Once chilled(overnight best)cut up into chunks and add: pineapple chunks and whipped creme(yes, the old fashioned way). Mix together and add coconut if desired.

Just isn't Thanksgiving without it.

Hi all!

The only connection between Nixon and the Watergate Salad is that the "Burglery" took place at the Watergate Hotel.  The Watergate Salad was created at the same Watergate Hotel.  It's sort of like the six degrees of Kevin Bacon.  Have a great day!

Hi shurlock2,  I know what your talking about, I used to make that a lot and my youngest sister, loved it and would ask me to make it for family gatherings, I had forgotten about it. The basic ingredents are: 1 lg. cottage cheese, add 1 sm. box of jello (any flavor) blend well then add 1 can well drained crushed pineapple, blend, then add the 1- 12 oz. cool whip last, chill overnight. I have added other thing, as already mentioned, but that's the basic. Let us know what you think,Smile

I make this salad/ dessert a lot!  I use orange sugar free jello, pur it on top of about 1 and 1/2 cups cottage cheese and stir together.  Add a can of mandarin oranges that have been drained and also stir in a carton of fat free cool whip.  It is yummy!  enjoy!

Omg... every Christmas and most Thanksgivings that I have been alive (26) we have had what we call green stuff. It is actually called "Lime Party Salad". It may look weird but just wait til you try it. You will never have a christmas or thanksgiving without it again. We ever make it sometimes at easter *lol* Also, it goes with your regular meal, not as a dessert!

Lime Party Salad

1/4 lb    Mini marshmallows or 16 large marshmallows

1 C       Milk

1- 3oz   Lime Jello

1- 8oz   Cream Cheese

1           Large Can Crushed Pineapple

1           Small Can Mandarin Oranges

1 C        Whipping Cream (whipped)

2/3 C     Mayonaise

             Marschino Cherries (optional)

If anyone has any questions or problems please feel free to e-mail me at ********************** Sorry the ingredients and instructions are apart by a paragraph but computer is not working right! But.... You will deff be suprised at how good this is! Hope someone tries it at least :) Thank you!

*leslie*

Melt marshmallows and 1C Milk over low to medium heat stirring constantly until smooth.

Remove from heat.  Add Lime Jello.  Stir until disolved.

Then stir in Cream Cheese.  Stir until melted.

Add undrained crushed pineapple and drained

mandarin oranges.  Cool.

Blend in Whipped Whipping Cream and 2/3 C Mayonaise.

Spray Mold with Vegatable Spray.

Pour into mold and refridgerate until solid.

Use Cherries at Christmas time

Do not use cheap pineapple, it has tough pieces in it and makes

Green stuff "crunchy".

Can be unmolded by sitting out, on stove top or dipping mold

in warm water for a minute or two and then inverting onto a plate.

If left too long in water it melts.

It's best is to set inverted over plate and walk away.  It will drop

out perfect before you know it.  If you do this earlier in the day, you

can put it back in the fridge until you need it and there's no rushing.
