My Favorite Kitchen Gadget for Fall
by AndiatBettyCrocker 10/8/2010 9:12:00 AM

What is yor favorite kitchen gadget? When asked what my favorite kitchen gadget for fall cooking and baking was, I immediately knew what my answer would be. It’s an apple peeler/corer/slicer. I recently used it when I made ...

New Year’s Resolution: Use What I’ve Got
by jillbcooks 12/30/2009 8:18:00 AM

I admit that I own a lot of kitchen gear.  Being a food enthusiast and cookbook writer, I tend to get gifts that have a connection to food.  While some of my gear—like my slow cooker—gets regular use, much of it sits packed away.  One of my goals this year is to bring value to the things I already own by using them regularly.  I plan to dust off and use: A breadmachine that my husband bought me about seven years ago. Betty Crocker has a large selection of breadmachine recipes to explore. A rice maker that I received as a wedding gift...

Candy Corn Waffles
by jillbcooks 10/29/2009 5:26:00 PM

My husband says I have two superpowers—one is a canine-like sense of smell and the other is the ability to take any food and make it as delicious (and caloric) humanly possible.  I have to admit that I am not a fan of no-fat and low-fat preparations.  I think of someone like Paula Deen who has an unabashed love of butter, and I think I am not exactly that enthusiastic about my particular predilections, but I at least acknowledge them. So, I love that Halloween is on a Saturday this year because it offers an opportunity to celebrate the day in a way that time will allow us to indulge...

Looking Forward to Waffles
by jillbcooks 7/31/2009 8:19:00 AM

I used to work at a large organization that had something called “Paychecks and Doughnuts” every other Friday.  The event brought people from all different departments together in a large room where coffee, doughnuts, and direct deposit slips or live pay checks were available.  In the middle of the room was a long, long, long conference table, literally covered with doughnuts—the most I had ever seen in one place.  People really looked forward to “Paychecks and Doughnuts," I think, because it simply offered something fun and sweet to look forward to, which I think we all need. One of my favorite blogs is called ...

Getting Ready for Fall: Once a Month Cooking
by jillbcooks 7/21/2009 8:13:00 AM

Today is the day: OAMC day.  That stands for Once-A-Month-Cooking.  It is a method for cooking a large quantity of food at one time and freezing it to use all month.  My goal is to fill the freezer to make the transition back to the fall routine easier.  We are watching what we eat more and want to avoid dining out.  OAMC also helps with portion control, since I plan to package meals in thoughtfully sized portions.  OAMC is a great solution for families, but can also be done for singles and couples, who may not feel like cooking every day from scratch.  When it comes to OAMC, i...

Waffle Wednesday
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 1/9/2009 5:43:00 PM

Have you ever eaten a waffle? Not one of those freezer-burned cardboard squares, but a real, honest-to-goodness waffle? I confess  I had not until Wednesday night. Criminal. I know. Wednesday was a rough day for me and I find that breakfast for dinner is a pretty good antidote to rough days. It’s almost like I can trick myself into thinking the bad day didn’t happen and I’m starting over fresh. Wishful eating I guess. Anyway, AC invited me over for dinner and we decided to try out my brand new ...
