Yep, you guessed it! Those are honey bees.
There are nearly 8,000 bees in that 2 pound box! Careful though, don’t get too close! Nah, don’t worry I'm kidding, they won’t hurt you.
As a serious honey lover, I decided to try my hand at beekeeping about 3 years ago and fell in love with the hard working honey bee.
In Minnesota, most of our honey bees have to travel halfway across the country before they can make honey for us here in Minnesota. My honey bees came from California on a semi-truck in 2 or 3 pound boxes. E...

Today we celebrated Kristen's birthday. She's an assistant food editor in the Kitchens. Since she and her boyfriend keep bees (I think "keep" is the right word; "raise" sounds wrong) Andi had Kathy, a Betty Crocker Kitchens Technician, make a Chocolate Honey-Dome Cake with Chocolate-Honey Glaze to celebrate. You can find the recipe here. Kristin was surprised (her birthday is actually next week) and we all got the opportunity to indulge in a little chocolate. Definitely a win-win situation....

I’ve just been given a couple of jars of wildflower honey from my bee-keeing friend, Carol, who has been raising bees on her farm in Iowa for several years. That's Carol on the right with our friend Tom who is learning how to extract honey from the hives.
