The Galax, Virginia Competition has come and gone. I must say it was a ton of hard work but a ton of fun as well. We were short handed as only Greg (Geaux) was able to join me. He and his wife Donna drove up from Mobile, AL. on Wednesday night. We then proceeded to load up the cookers on Thursday and drove to Galax to set up. Back to Charlotte we came to sleep that night only to return EARLY the next morning and start the fires. That day competed in BBQ Sauce and "Anything Butt" (where teams can cook anything but pork)
We met a bunch of nice people day including our neighbors for the weekend "The Barnyard Roasters". They are a father and son team and a riot! It was a wonderful location and the folks very friendly. We stayed at log cabins that Friday night and my wife Kim was so impressed that she wants to go back on vacation. It probably also has something to do with all the nice gift shops were located downtown. Anyway … we cooked my "Organic Ribs" on Saturday, went to the awards ceremony, packed up and headed back. WOW what an action packed weekend! So now that I have left you wondering … here were the results: 1st Place Sauce, 2nd Place "Anything Butt", and 7th Place Ribs. It was a good showing and we are anxious to go back next year.
Attached is a picture of Donna and my little one showing off our new "Suddenly Salad" shirts. I really want to thanks those folks with Suddenly Salad for sponsoring us especially my buddy Quinn. Hopefully we did you proud and I can tell that we went through a bunch of boxes that stuff … especially the Ranch and Bacon (my favorite).
Until next time,
Hurricane
