AC and Luke are now flu-free and still without a kitchen so I made Farfalle with Chicken, Tomatoes, Caramelized Onions, and Goat Cheese for them on Saturday night. I liked it and would make it again, with a few changes. I would omit the marjoram next time as I didn’t care for it. I would also allow A LOT more time to caramelize the onions as the time suggested in the recipe isn’t nearly enough. That said, it made for a nice dinner. I just served with a loaf of asiago cheese bread.

Sunday was Grand Old Day. Grand Avenue is a popular street near my house and on the first Sunday in June it gets blocked off and turned into a food festival, complete with bands and beer gardens. I walked over with my neighbors Amy and Shawn. The first thing we tried was deep-fried green beans. They were served with an optional side of ranch dressing and tasted utterly yummy. (I wish I had a picture to share but the day was hot and I wanted to cart along as few items as possible.) Amy enjoyed a corn dog and I got my fave: cheese curds. Shawn indulged in a cheeseburger. As we milled among the thousands of people we noticed a cart selling something called a Beef Sundae. Intrigued, we walked over and learned it was mashed potatoes, roast beef, more mashed potatoes, gravy and topped with a cherry tomato. The day was hot and we were already stuffed so we passed, but we gave the vendor points for originality.
That evening Amy and Shawn hosted a backyard barbecue. I was asked to bring a pasta salad so I made an old standby. I just cut up a green bell pepper, a cucumber, some fresh mozzarella and halved a bunch of grape tomatoes. I tossed them all together with some Italian dressing and Salad Supreme seasoning. Super easy and apparently a hit: I went home with an empty bowl.
