Personalize Your Party
by Heidi at Betty Crocker  4/9/2008 3:46:00 PM

My friend Amy is a party person. Basically, she’s Julie, the Cruise Director, from The Love Boat when it comes to planning get-togethers. I admire the fact that she never seems to stress out and can get a group of super-fun people together at a moment’s notice.

I am absolutely the opposite, and therefore leave all the party planning to her (unfair, I know, but at least I know my limitations). I’ve watched her and her husband renew their wedding vows in front of an Elvis impersonator in their backyard. I’ve celebrated the 100th birthday of her home, and I’ve dressed as a 60s go-go dancer to attend her Halloween bash.

Basically she already has everything she needs to plan a successful soiree: An outgoing personality, an optimistic attitude, plenty of friends, and the ability to just roll with things as they happen. Still, when I came across foryourparty, I thought of her.

Perhaps next time I’m invited across the street for one of her get-togethers, I can provide her with something more than just my sparkling personality (ha!).

There are lots of creative people out there that have tons of great party ideas. I have a friend that built a miniature drive-in movie screen in his backyard. He took about 4 pieces of drywall and elevated them with a frame stand. He has an HD projector that he uses to project movies onto the screen. He bought a DVD online that has lots of those old 50's and 60's move trailers and drive-in jingle commercials for the concession stand with dancing hot dogs and such. He plays this about 20 minutes before his movie starts. He built a concession stand and offers candy bars, hot dogs, popcorn, nachos with cheese, etc.. He has a DJ quality professional sound system and blasts the audio for the movies. All of his friends and neighbors bring lawn chairs out and sit out at night to watch movies in his backyard. He usually does this a couple of times a year to try to raise money for Autism research charities since his kid is autistic. Everybody has a great time. If you put your energy and creativity behind something, you can do anything!
