On Friday I was hanging out with A.C. and we were trying to decide what to do for dinner. She called her husband, Luke, to see if he was up for ordering pizza and he requested for Bombay Sliders instead.
The first time I made the little appetizer-size turkey burgers was last spring when I hosted book group. The book we were discussing was Life of Pi and I thought it fitting to serve Indian food (the narrator of the story is from India). They were a hit and everyone in the group asked for the recipe. I liked the burgers so much I made them for my neighborhood friends for one of our Sunday night meals. Again, everyone loved them. Still, I was surprised—and flattered—when Luke requested them.
I’ll admit to being a little put off. It’s not that the burgers are hard to make, but it’s certainly a bigger time commitment than ordering a pizza. But Luke rarely asks me for anything and A.C. thought it was a good idea, so I conceded. We hit the grocery store together to round up the ingredients and I put her to work chopping once we got back to my house.
Turns out, the burgers are a lot less work when there are two people doing the chopping (duh!). Plus, having company in the kitchen makes everything seem like less of a chore. I’ve found if I don’t focus so much on the end result but rather on the process, cooking is far more fun.
