I am a big fan of hostess gifts—flowers, wine or little treats are my favorites to give for casual get togethers. When invited to someone’s home for more formal meal, a hostess gift is customary. I never expect them, but am delighted when I receive one. The point of a gift is to show appreciation for a host’s thoughtfulness and to “give back” an experience that the host can enjoy later. I am developing a series of cooking classes for teenagers. The classes are at a local high school and are only an hour long. This means that I need to develop quick recipes that will keep teens’ attention and that strike a balance between healthy (or “healthier”) recipes and treats. I also like to develop recipes that are familiar to kids—one way to do that is to replicate restaurant recipes.
