Eyes on the Prize…A Blue Ribbon for Cake

It is about that time to enter State Fair baking competitions.  I definitely want to win a ribbon this year, so I have been at work tinkering with different cake recipes.  Whenever I need to develop a recipe, I like to think about different trends and tastes that are of the moment, and then think about what I like to eat.  I have been on a cheery kick recently, using fresh and dried cherries in baked goods and salads, and knew that I wanted to incorporate them into the cake I am developing.  I have been playing...

How Would You Spend Five Hundred Dollars

I just registered to compete in the Baked Goods contest at the Minnesota State Fair.  From here on out, I am on the lookout for ideas and inspiration.  I know that I want to find a way to put a contemporary twist on a classic recipe.  I have been really into baking bundt cakes this year, so I think that I want to use a basic bundt recipe as my starting place.  Now the key is to think about how to make it fresh and different.  I really would love to win a blue ribbon at the Minnesota State Fair.  I think my Turtle Bundt cake needs some tweaking, but has a lot of promise.  I will keep you up to date here as I keep ...
