Honey Bees in Minnesota
by AndiatBettyCrocker 4/23/2010 1:21:00 PM

Hi Everybody, Kristen here  Yep, you guessed it! Those are honey bees. There are nearly 8,000 bees in that 2 pound box! Careful though, don’t get too close! Nah, don’t worry I'm kidding, they won’t hurt you. As a serious honey lover, I decided to try my hand at beekeeping about 3 years ago and fell in love with the hard working honey bee. In Minnesota, most of our honey bees have to travel halfway across the country before they can make honey for us here in Minnesota. My honey bees came from California on a semi-truck in 2 or 3 pound boxes. E...

My Cure for Spring Fever? Key Lime Cupcakes!!
by AndiatBettyCrocker 4/19/2010 1:51:00 PM

Hi, Kristen Here! I'm filling in for Andi while she's at a convention this week. I know we've only just met but, I have a confession to make... I love cupcakes. Cupcakes and I have a bit of a rocky history though. Just between you and me, I hated cupcakes when I was growing up. I didn’t understand why someone would want a store bought cupcake with really dr...

…And Mom and Dad Can Hardly Wait for School to Start Again
by jillbcooks 12/30/2008 9:10:00 AM

With most schools still on break until next week, at this point parents could probably use some inspired ideas to keep kids happy and occupied.  There are a multitude of activities for kids and families like roller skating or going to an indoor water park.  But these activities can cost a lot.  Stuffing teddy bears at the mall or playing games at an arcade is fun for maybe one day of winter break, but done repeatedly these activities can break the bank.  A fun alternative is getting kids active in the kitchen.  Cooking and baking appeals to toddlers and teens, and it can create memories as meaningful as any that cost many times more money.  Who knows?...

Create Your Own Online Cookbook
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 5/2/2008 3:26:00 PM

A while back, Andi talked about a friend’s daughter who was interested in software that would help her compile recipes into a book for her bridesmaids. Along the same vein, my friend Ellen shared this site with me a couple of weekends ago. While it’s...

Easy Easter Menu
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 3/21/2008 10:06:00 AM

Hold onto your hats, folks: I’m hosting Easter.   Since my one sister has everyone over for Thanksgiving and my other sister hosts Christmas, Easter falls to me. I’ve hosted Easter brunch two or three times now and I’ve got a menu that seems to work. It includes a Breakfast Strudel recipe I found in ...

Baby it's Cold Outside (Again)
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 2/20/2008 3:20:00 PM

We're having another cold snap here in the Twin Cities. It's been an especially chilly and snowy winter and I think pretty much everyone is ready for spring. Having a few teaser days when the temps were in the 30s makes it even harder to deal with the cold. If there's any flavor that calls to mind warmer weather for me, it's citrus. Just a whiff of an orange, lemon or a lime makes my goose bumps disappear--at least momentarily. I'll be honest with you: I haven't tasted the recipe I'm about to share, but my coworkers who tried it during Taste Panel could not stop r...

Pizza and Pearls
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 1/25/2008 4:06:00 PM

Last night I got together with several co-workers for a jewelry exchange. I wasn’t in the market for anything new but I did get rid of (I mean “share”) a couple of bracelets, a pin and some earrings I never wear. We all had quite a laugh over some of the items. (The 80s certainly had a distinctive style!) Mostly, it was fun to just hang out. Our hostess, Diane, made a bunch of pizzas with all sorts of unusual toppings like roasted pepper pesto, sun-dried tomatoes and Canadian bacon (okay, so that weren’t THAT unusual—but I’m a pepperoni-pizza person, so they were a little outside my comfort zone). Dian...

Pull-Apart Caramel Loaf
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 1/21/2008 2:29:00 PM

I made the Pull-Apart Caramel Loaf on Sunday. The only trouble I ran into was finding the frozen cinnamon rolls. My local grocery store didn't stock them so I wound up going to a larger supermarket to get them.     ...

Baby, it's Cold Outside
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 1/18/2008 4:01:00 PM

I've been sick this whole week (hence my lack of a post on Monday--sorry about that) so I haven't been cooking or eating much which doesn't make for interesting blogging (sorry again). Weather forecasters are predicting extremely cold temperatures this weekend, so it would be a good time to bake, provided I can work it into my nap schedule. If I plan it right, I should only have to leave the house once, to go to the grocery store, and then I can settle into my cozy little kitchen and bake to my heart's content. Here's a recipe I plan to try. Warm bread and caramel--what's not to like?Pull-Apart Caramel Loaf Prep Time: 10 Minutes Start t...

Happy National Spaghetti Day! Seriously.
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 1/4/2008 1:58:00 PM

In honor of this little-known food holiday, I’m sharing my favorite spaghetti sauce recipe with you. It’s my mom’s recipe and it was one of my favorite things to eat growing up. It calls for pretty common ingredients and it’s totally no-fuss to prepare. I like to make it on a Saturdays or a Sunday so I can enjoy the aroma of it while I do laundry or clean the house. Even if you’re not hungry when you start it, you will be after it simmers on the stove awhile.I called my friend Michelle for the recipe because I forgot to bring a copy of it into work today. She reminded me that I made this for ...
