Tonight we are having some guests over for a Mediterranean feast. I am making Ina Garten’s grilled butterflied leg of lamb. We are serving olives, hummus and tabbouleh, and a variety of salads.

I was a part of a cooking event last week on Yom HaAtzmaut, which is Israeli Independence Day. The celebration often features Israeli food—think of eating all-American foods like hot dogs and apple pie on July Fourth—such as falafel, pita, hummus, and Israeli salad.
The group I happened to be working with made Israeli pickles. The pickles are small and sour, made in brine and very different from kosher dill pickles. Here is a great blog post on making Israeli pickles.
