Food is always a part of family traditions and special celebrations. Whether it a special cake that mom makes every year for our birthday or a roast turkey with bread stuffing for a Thanksgiving Day meal, some of our favorite memories include the food we share with friends and family.
I was reminded of this when I received the following note from my friend, Cindy, who has just moved to Moscow:

Last weekend, my husband and I headed off on a day trip to Red Wing, Minnesota to find a bite to eat, window shop and take in the scenery. We stopped into a bakery (well, because I can’t resist small town bakeries) and I was impressed and delighted by a whole display of Halloween breads.

As you’ve probably heard, the Academy Awards are right around the corner—Sunday, to be exact. I won’t be watching—it’s AC’s birthday so we’ll be out celebrating—but I wanted to share a great recipe that would be perfect for an Oscar party. Not only does it taste amazing, but it’s really hearty. So hearty, in fact, that my sister and I made it a couple of Saturdays ago for dinner. I also made it once for AC and Luke’s annual Talent Show and it disappeared in no time.
