No wonder Jill's recipes are so easy. She once owned a business that specialized in teaching kids to cook & bake.

Cooking for New Parents
by jillbcooks  9/16/2010 6:04:00 PM

I have a friend who just gave birth to her first little one.  She has her hands full, so a few of us teamed up to fill up her refrigerator and freezer.

When it comes to cooking for a new mom and dad, there are a few things to keep in mind. Providing a variety of easy, healthy, appealing foods is key, while avoiding overly spicy foods for nursing moms.  Plan ahead with others so new parents aren't inundated with food.  Also, think about foods that could frfeeze easily if they do have an abundance of food.

I made a few cold salads, as an alternative to heavy casseroles that others made.  I cut up a bunch of fresh fruit. She said she appreciated it as an easy snack in the middle of the night.  I also made minestrone soup and some foccacia.  Others in our group made creamy chicken casserole, lasagna and roasted vegetables.  One clever friend covered breakfast and brought them a baked egg dish and hash browns.

What meals have you given or received?  Any ideas for the second round of food to bring to these friends?
