Getting More Vitamin D
by jillbcooks  3/6/2010 7:27:00 PM

Last year after getting an annual physical and health check up, the nurse who took my vitals called me to follow up on my blood test results.  She was very professional and kind, but also very funny.  She told me that I won a prize—that they had never seen someone before with a lower amount of Vitamin D.  She called in a prescription for powerful Vitamin D, which I took once per week.  I hadn’t realized until after taking the vitamin just how run-down I actually had been feeling.  Learn more about Vitamin D

Vitamin D is manufactured by the body by absorbing sunlight through the skin, which aids in creating a hormone form of the vitamin.  Besides taking supplements, the only other way to increase amounts of Vitamin D is by eating foods rich with vitamin.

Some vitamin boosting choices include:

Salmon is a good resource. Try this Lemon and Parmesan Crusted Salmon.

Swiss Cheese, as featured in these Country Chicken Sandwiches with Maple Mustard Spread, is a type of cheese highest in Vitamin D.

Feel good about eating Fudgy Brownie Trifle knowing that using fortified milk delivers much needed Vitamin D.
