Fundraising and Friend-raising

This past weekend we attended a school fundraiser that had a unique twist. Rather than being an auction or dinner, the fundraising idea is called Great Gatherings. Members of the school community, from administrators to teachers to families, volunteer to host an event (a “Great Gathering) and provide the materials needed, and other community members sign up and pay to attend these events. This raises funds, and it also gives people an opportunity to get to know one another. From bird watching walks with an elementary school teacher to a beer and brat party for adults to kids’ yoga class, the gatherings filled up quickly. Many of the events were food related, and I think a Great Gatherings that is solely food themed would be really fun. I could see Iron-Chef type challenges, wine tastings, progressive dinners, candy making classes and kids cooking classes. Find all kinds of activities for baking with kids at BettyCrocker.com.
