Kettle Corn is the World’s Best Packing Material
by jillbcooks  8/6/2009 5:06:00 PM

So, yesterday was my birthday—my sixth annual 29th birthday.  My younger sister Liz likes to put together birthday boxes with a card, treats and prezzies.  She is top-notch at creating the perfect birthday box—always color coordinated, always with lots of cute touches like Post-Its with notes, and (when she sends them to me at least) always with kettle corn, which acts as delicious, sustainable packing peanuts.  I was delighted to dig into the box, which had lots of great presents, including super cute retro dish towels and the Julie & Julia novel.  Does she know me or what?

Liz and her husband have perfected their kettle corn.  I tried to make it once, and burned the heck out of my pot and contemplated throwing the pot away until I tried one of those magic sponges to scrub it out!  The kettle corn is a perfect mix of sweet and salty, with a crisp crunch.  It tastes familiar to me, maybe like a kind of cereal I ate when I was a kid.  Anyway, it is delicious.  They learned to make it from this video.

Thanks, Liz!
