Food Finds on Vacation or Staycation
by jillbcooks  7/14/2009 11:05:00 AM

Whether I am on vacation or enjoying a Stay-cation, I love to explore good food. For me, good food is not necessarily fancy food, but food that has a reputation for being exceptional in some way.  I always seem to pay attention to “best of” lists when it comes to food.  A while back there was a list of America’s best hamburgers in GQ magazine that listed the hamburgers at Le Tub in Florida as the very best.  A list from Oprah Winfrey echoed the sentiment.  That was it.  On our next visit to Florida, we had to go.  Here are the pictures from our hamburger adventure:

The hamburgers were huge and very homestyle.  The crazy decor includes porcelain tubs and toliets used as planters.  We had lots of fun and some very good eats.

We just had visitors in town who wanted to visit some place in the Twin Cities that they had seen on television shows about food.  We went to a restaurant called The 5-8 Club, which is famous for its Jucy Lucy hamburgers, which feature molten hot cheese inside the burger patty.  They had seen it on a show called Man vs. Food.  For another of our eating excursions, we went to The Dari-ette, a restaurant featured on the show Diner, Drive-ins and Dives.  The Dari-ette is a drive-in restaurant known for its Italian food and deep fried meatballs.  Here is a meatball sandwich that we all split.

Do you seek out places you’ve seen on tv when you travel?  Tell us about it.
