Double-Chocolate Strawberry Pancakes
by AndiatBettyCrocker 2/9/2011 9:48:00 AM

This is a winning recipe. In fact, it was the Grand Prize Winner, last year, in a Better with Bisquick Recipe Contest. Ever since I first tasted it, I’ve been planning to make it for breakfast at our cabin. So close to Valentine’s Day, it was the perfect breakfast for Blake and me to make together. I’ve occasionally written posts about cooking with our grandson, Blake, since he was about 1 ½ years old. Now he is 3 ½ years old, and&nbs...

Pancakes with Strawberries for Breakfast
by AndiatBettyCrocker 8/16/2010 3:13:00 PM

My grandson, Blake loves pancakes and sausages and so when he comes to the cabin, that's what we make for breakfast. I put Blake and his mom (Katie) to work, cleaning and slicing strawberries to serve with our pancakes. Do you know what this is called? It’s called a strawberry huller. Three-year old Blake (in his Spiderman pajamas) used a strawberry hu...

Pancake Fun
by AndiatBettyCrocker 7/8/2010 2:10:00 PM

Grandson Blake stayed with us for a couple of nights last week while his parents went to the hospital to bring home his new baby brother, Finn. As always when we get a chance to spend time with Blake, we find some time to cook. One morning we used a Tovolo Pancake Pen to make some fun pancakes. I whipped up a batch of Bisquick pancakes (see recipe below) in the bottle of the "pancake pen" and gave it a shake. Blake (with a little help from Jack) made pancakes in the shape of the letter B–the first ...

Banana Pancakes for a Valentine’s Day Breakfast
by AndiatBettyCrocker 2/24/2010 8:29:00 AM

The weekend before last, we awoke to a frosty world outside. The trees and bushes were all beautifully white, giving the feel and look of a winter wonderland. This was the morning, we left home to travel to the Oakenwald Terrace B&B in southern Minnesota—just nine miles south of Rochester, MN. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary along with our friends, Jim and Frankie. We have celebrated with them ever since our first anniversary, 34 years ago. (Our anniversary is on February 1...

Breakfast for Dinner: Cheap and Satisfying
by jillbcooks 10/2/2009 5:23:00 PM

I was trying to resist going out to dinner tonight and needed a quick at-home meal idea that would satisfy so I could say no to spending money in restaurants.  I am inspired by a blog called Blogging Away Debt to avoid spending money on dining out until my student loans are paid off.  The blog is all about this woman's efforts to pay down her debts.  She write about the choices she has to make and how life can sometimes get in the way of good intentions.  After looking at our household finances last weekend, I have made some decisions about spending and saving and want to stick to them. I have even gone so far as to...

Pancakes and Quality Time
by jillbcooks 3/12/2009 10:05:00 AM

Have you recovered from losing an hour last week as our clocks “sprang forward?”  The time shift is a harbinger of spring, and even here in chilly Minne-snow-ta (as my out of state friends call it), daylight has lingered for much longer this week than it has in a very, very long time. Before life gets busy with all the obligations of spring, like Saturday m...

It Happens to the Best of Us
by CheriAtBettyCrocker 3/6/2009 1:01:00 PM

Ruby and her friend Mady decided to go to a play one Sunday afternoon.  They picked "The Shadow Thieves", (What if Greeek myths were real?" reads the description) by Anne Ursu, a Minnesota author.  It was showing at Stages Theatre, not far from our house.  Ruby asked Mady to come over for brunch.  I decided to make Strawberry-Vanilla Yogurt Waffles from Betty Crocker Win at Weight Loss Cookbook. (I don't make waffles very often) When Ruby heard that, she said, "Mom, I really wanted to have my very favorite, Puffy Apple Oven Pancake, that's soooo good! (the girls are 13, a time when every...
