America’s Biggest Test Kitchen?
by AndiatBettyCrocker 2/8/2011 12:32:00 PM

This morning, I had the pleasure of giving Jillian Michaels (personal trainer for the popular TV show, The Biggest Loser) a tour of the Betty Crocker Kitchens. We have more than 7,000 square feet of kitchen space with 19 fully equipped individual kitchens designed for over 50,000 recipes tests each year. Adjacent to the kitchens is America’s “biggest” corporate cookbook library, complete with 1,260 feet of high-density rolling book shelves for easy access. Before going any further with this post, I’m sure you will want to know what Jillian is like...

Blogger Bakerella and Her Cake Pops
by AndiatBettyCrocker 5/28/2010 7:00:00 AM

It was a thrill for me to meet Bakerella this week. Blogger, Bakerella, developed the popular and very adorable “Cake Pops” recipes. You can find her site by clicking here: Bakerella.com. We invited her to visit the Betty Crocker Kitchens because she is sharing some of her recipes in a magazine that will be at newsstands in the fall. Here she is at one of our taste panels. From left to right: Diane (Editor), me, Bakerella, Cathy (Food Editor) and the back of Kristen (Assistant Food Editor). Kristen is getting ready to pass some of the recipes we are about to eva...

Cheesecake Pancakes
by AndiatBettyCrocker 11/4/2009 10:33:00 AM

Cheesecake Pancakes—REALLY? Members of our staff read about them on the Bettycrocker.com message boards and from the comments on the boards, we learned that they are a new item on the menu at a popular pancake restaurant. They sounded so good to us, we decided to develop our own&nbs...

Ten Ways to Boost Your Fiber
by CheriAtBettyCrocker 6/30/2009 4:10:00 PM

Fiber has a very important role in a healthy diet and in helping manage diabetes.  Fiber provides a sense of fullness without the calories and satisfies your appetite without affecting blood glucose levels.  And yet, many people do not get enough fiber.  Experts recommend at least 25 grams of fiber per day.  What's more, if you eat a food with 5 or more grams of fiber, you can subtract the fiber grams from the total grams of carbohydrate in the food.  Choosing foods high in fiber will make sticking to your diabetes or weight loss plan much easier, because you'll feel more full.  Add fiber in these ten, tasty ways: 1.  Introd...

If You Love Cinnamon, Chex® It Out
by CheriAtBettyCrocker 4/1/2009 3:15:00 PM

Calling all cinnamon-lovers....there is a new cinnamon cereal you'll want to know about.  It's Cinnamon Chex® and has a terrific cinnamon taste, the best of any product I've tasted.  (I'm very picky when it comes to my favorite flavor, cinnamon) And, the crunch that only Chex can provide is perfect with the cinnamon. The cereal is great with skim milk for breakfast first thing in the morning or anytime of day.  (eating it straight from the box as a snack is my son Christian's favorite way to consume it).  In the Betty Crocker Kitchens, we recently had the pleasure of developing recipes with new Cinnamon Chex.  Cinna...

Quick Fix, Healthy Meals
by CheriAtBettyCrocker 3/16/2009 2:05:00 PM

Consumers have a hard time getting Quick & Easy, (let alone Healthy) dinners on the table that their kids will eat these days.  (Heck, it's hard for me to do and I know about food and where to find the recipes.) That's why I wasn't surprised when our latest cooking class, "Quick Fix Healthy Meals" filled up within minutes.  I teamed up with my dietitian friend, Maureen Doran, to teach the class.  We work well together, I talk about the food and she talks about the nutrition, although at times we interject themes from each others' world, as we've been doing this for a while.  The General Mills Wellness Committee sponsored the class--I'm an active comm...

Fiber One® Makes Fiber Fun
by CheriAtBettyCrocker 3/10/2009 4:10:00 PM

How much fiber do you need every day?  At least 25 grams for a healthy diet, experts say. Who knew?  Fiber One® folks knew, since the Original Bran Cereal contains 14 grams per 1/2 cup.  (I'm a daily Fiber One® user, have been for a very long time.)   Do you know how much fiber you eat every day? Fiber One® recently rolled out many new, great-tasting cereals, chewy bars, toaster pastries, yogurt and even cottage cheese, all in an effort to get us to eat more fiber.  And now, there's an interactive web site and online game that puts fiber in the spotlight and players’ fiber expertise to the test by playing the Fiber One® Fiber Frie...

Secrets of the Kitchen
by CheriAtBettyCrocker 3/5/2009 1:11:00 PM

Last week I taught an evening cooking class in the Betty Crocker Kitchens.  Instead of a demo, we tried a hands-on class where participants prepared recipes, asked questions, learned new techniques and sampled all of the recipes.  16 women signed up, all wanting to cook more healthy.  They were employees, Moms, daughters or friends of employees.   (Not many people get to cook in the BCK, so they knew from the start that this was something special.) All 10 recipes were hand-picked from my favorite cookbook, Betty Crocker Cookbook for...

Sense & Sensibility
by Heidi at Betty Crocker 8/20/2008 3:50:00 PM

A while back I went to something called “Sensory Training for the Betty Crocker Kitchens.” I had no idea what to expect. What I found was a room filled with several long tables. At each “place setting” (for lack of a better word), there were numerous little plastic cups and glass bottles. Some of the cups had labels identifying what they were:  “Sweet,” “Sour,” “Salty,” “Bitter,” ...
