I ran across this article recently, as I was looking for something else. I wrote it as I was researching the Betty Crocker Cookbook for Women. (yet another reason I am so committed to exercise--I need all the mental fitness I can get these days).

My life has been so crazy lately that I haven't been able to blog for about a month. It's year-end at General Mills and we are eveloping many new products, recipes and photos, even as we speak. People often ask, "If there was just one thing I could do to help me lose wieght, what would it be?" My answer is to pay attention to portion sizes, it's more about how much we eat than eliminating certain foods. (that is, if all the other good habits are in place, like exercising regularly, eating healthy foods. etc).
Many marketplace and restaurant portions are much larger than standard portions--and bigger portions have made us bigger eaters, according to a couple of recent studies. It's easy to lose touch with what a real serving size looks like when we are offered larger servings.
