Fruit Salad Discovery
by jillbcooks 4/1/2010 8:28:00 AM

Last weekend my husband and I went out for brunch.  When we got out to eat, we often use the time to figure out plans for travel or holidays or coordinating our schedules for the week.  I knew that I wanted to figure out what we were making for Passover seder.  I love menu planning, but I do find Passover a bit challenging, since my favorite cakes and pies are not kosher for Passover. My husband had a simple solution to my dessert quandary.  He said just serve fruit with a bit of whipped cream.  I had just been up to the brunch buffet where we were eating and passed on the fruit—huge chunks of cantaloupe and honeydew.  I don’t love honeydew...

Holiday Breakfasts and Brunches
by AndiatBettyCrocker 12/15/2009 2:03:00 PM

Will you be hosting overnight guests during the holidays? We will not have guests staying at our house but we plan to bring breakfast over to Jason and Katie’s home on Christmas Day so we can watch Blake open his gifts from Santa. When you need to serve breakfast to guests, it's easy if you start with a "make-ahead" recipe. Jack and I were served this unique make-ahead breakfast recipe for Apple Cinnamon French Toast, when we stayed overnight at the Auroa Staples Inn (Stillwa...

The Challenge: Party of Six on a $25 Budget
by CateC_BettyCrocker_MOD 10/24/2009 12:00:00 AM

“I used to bake in high heels everyday.”- Grandma Joann My grandmother, entertainer extraordinaire, loved to bring her family and friends together around the kitchen table throughout the years. As a mother of eight, she was always budget-conscious. So, when she passed away a few weeks ago, I wanted to pay tribute by throwing a family gathering on just a $25 budget. A mass email to my family confirmed that brunch was the best time, which also happened to be perfect for my budget! I...

Simple is Better
by CheriAtBettyCrocker 1/8/2009 2:14:00 PM

Cooking, baking and entertaining is a treat to me and I treated myself to a lot of it over the holidays.  For one meal I baked Herb Roast Chicken and Vegetables, homemade dinner rolls, a tossed salad and Apple Crostata for dessert.  For another meal I made Herb-Crusted Pork Tenderloin, baked potatoes, Cascadian Farms edemame (green soybeans) and Cranberry Sauce.  (I'm always trying to add fruits or vegetables to dishes and get my kids and guests to eat more fruits and vegetables.)  I baked Oatmeal Cookies, made peanut brittle and homemade lefse.  Though my kids are now teens, they still prefer simple foods; pancakes, scrambled...

Christmas Day Brunch
by AndiatBettyCrocker 12/23/2008 10:30:00 AM

I’m at home today, getting ready for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. For me this means that I’m still cooking and baking. Tomorrow I plan to make Overnight French Toast Bake with Berry Topping to bring to Jason’s  and Katie’s home on Christmas morning.  I really like this make-ahead recipe because of the pretty red berry topping with fresh strawberries.   French Toast Bake with Berry Toopping     12 cups cubed (1 inch) soft Fre...

by Heidi at Betty Crocker 3/24/2008 10:13:00 AM

So I made it through Easter brunch. Everyone survived—I think they might actually have enjoyed themselves. There weren't few leftovers, which I took as a good sign. Each of my nieces and my nephew got two Easter basket; one from me (which I used as a centerpiece during the meal), and one from their grandma, They're probably still hyper from all the sugar. The Breakfas...
