Have you seen the top ten list of Betty Crocker Redhot Holiday Trends? I am partial to number seven on the list, cooking with kids. The Redhot Trends video includes a fun video that shows how to make a simple sweet Chex mix recipe called Reindeer Feed. This would be a fun way to keep kids busy if you are expecting to be snowed in this weekend.

Along with summer, the mango season is nearly over. I love hot weather (why do I live in Minnesota?) and mangos and I’m not thrilled to see either coming to an end. I’m reminded of the old adage, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” My version of this is, “When fall is just around the corner (bitter lemons for me), make mango ice cream using some of those juicy, delicious fresh mangos that you can still get at a supermarket. Did you know that all next week, by Presidential proclamation, all government buildings and citizens are requested to fly the American flag? This upcoming Sunday, June 14, is Flag Day, and the week that follows is national Flag Week. Flag Day is my husband’s favorite holiday of the year. He says he likes the story of Bernard Cigrand, a teacher in Wisconsin, who in 1885 organized the first formal public observance of Flag Day. Cigrand became a passionate ambassador for the holiday and eventually formed the American Flag Day Association.
