In honor of Octoberfest, we decided to develop a recipe for stuffed pretzels. And because it is a German celebration, I used bratwurst and sauerkraut to make the filling for these wonderfully chewy, hand-held mini meals. They are delicious as a game-day snack with a cold beer or for a weekend lunch, served with your favorite mustard as dipping sauce.

In October, I get cravings for German food. Maybe that’s because it’s the time of year when my German grandmother would bake pork chops and sauerkraut, in a casserole, for dinner. When I was growing up, heating up the oven to make diner was also a nice way to make our house feel warmer on cool fall nights. (If you read my post on October 12th, you will know that “cool” fall weather around the Twin Cities this year means 20°F at night.)
Another reason to think about German food this time of year is because the original Oktoberfest occur...
