Two Thousand Christmas Cookies
by AndiatBettyCrocker 12/7/2011 3:18:00 PM

Renae, a member of our staff, came up with a way our department could use our kitchen resources to decorate cookies for local food shelves. She made a few calls and was able to get 2,000 sugar cookies donated from one of our General Mills plants in Chanhassen, Minnesota. A committe was then formed to make a plan for decorating all of these cookies in our test kitchens by employees throughout our company as a team-building event. Here are just some of the very cute and festive cookies we decorated. Seven stations were set up wit...

Peanut Butter Reindeer Cookies
by AndiatBettyCrocker 12/3/2010 6:46:00 AM

Blake (3 ½ years old) likes to page through recipe magazines. When the newest Betty Crocker supermarket magazine (Christmas Cookies) arrived at their home, Blake told his mother he wanted to make the Peanut Butter Reindeer Cookies. Katie told Blake to call me so we could set up a date to make the cookies. Since there are only 7 ingredients in the recipe it’s really easy to make with kids. To make it even easier for us, I made the dough (just cookie mix, oil, water and an egg) and put it ...

Cookies Bring People Together
by jillbcooks 12/16/2009 8:24:00 PM

When we moved into our current home last June, we met our neighbors while we were doing yard work and gardening in front of the house.  I’ve chatted only once with our neighbors across the street, a nice couple with a little guy who is about kindergarten aged.  The other evening, our doorbell rang, and I was surprised to see them at the door.  They had baked cookies and were bringing plates to all their neighbors.  What a delight!  I especially loved the glittery red mitten cookie (which was delish when I had it with a cup of tea when editing some recipes later). They t...

Baking Cookies for a Cause
by AndiatBettyCrocker 12/11/2009 8:14:00 AM

Every year for the last seven, employees in the Betty Crocker Kitchens (and from other departments that work closely with us) get together for an afternoon to bake and decorate cookies—lots and lots of cookies! This year, there were 45 of us who made enough goodies to fill: 80 cookie tins, 127 bags of gingerbread people, 15 bags of Chocolate Chex® Caramel Crunch and 40 boxes of candy (...

Gingerbread Boy Cookies
by AndiatBettyCrocker 11/30/2009 1:06:00 PM

Gingerbread Cutout cookies are easy and quick to make if you start with a mix, as Blake and I did last week. Here is Blake holding a package of the Betty Crocker gingerbread cookie mix. Blake poured t...

Christmas Cookies
by AndiatBettyCrocker 11/6/2009 2:03:00 PM

Is it too early to start baking Christmas cookies? Absolutely not! This new Betty Crocker supermarket magazine is full of great Christmas cookie, bar and candy recipes. Copies will be available at your supermarket by November 10th. Here is a sampling of the great recipes in this issue: Ginger-Lemon Delights (below) are one of my favorites. Ginger cookies are a nice addition to any Christmas cookie plat...

Three Dimensional Sugar Cookies
by jillbcooks 10/28/2009 5:43:00 PM

After uploading photos to Flickr a few weeks ago, I spent some time exploring other Flickr members food-related photo streams.  I came across an amazing set of photos of three dimensional Halloween cookies.  I’ve seen 3-D cookies before, like Christmas trees built from a variety of different sized stars.  The cookies I saw on Flickr were built from two pieces with matched notches that fit together.   You can buy fancy cutters that have the notch, or use very plain cutters (like pumpkins or round ornaments) and use...

Ironing and Dreaming of Christmas Cookies
by jillbcooks 9/30/2009 6:45:00 PM

Since I am so cheap, I never send my husband’s clothes or mine out to be dry cleaned if I can launder them myself.  My husband is a school principal, so he wears dress clothes every day and the laundry piles up fast.  I always seem to get behind on ironing and end up with a mountain of clothes that need to be done.  I have a trick for looking forward to the chore: watching television while I iron.  I always watch something that I don’t necessarily watch during the week—not junk exactly, but not cerebral dramas, either.  Think a marathon of America’s Next Top Model or those Discovery channel shows about medical mysteries.  Well, this pa...

Decorating Christmas Cookies with a Toddler
by AndiatBettyCrocker 12/16/2008 5:30:00 PM

Our grandson, Blake (1 ½ years old) spent last weekend at our house. I decided that he could help me decorate some Christmas cookies for my mother (Blake’s great-grandmother). I started with a nice sugar cookie dough (from the Christmas Cookies issue of Betty Crocker supermarket magazine #246) and rolled it out with my new nonstick rolling pin from the BettyCrockerStore.com. Then I cut ...

New Christmas Cookie Recipes
by AndiatBettyCrocker 11/11/2008 11:14:00 PM

We started working on the new Betty Crocker Christmas Cookies magazine (available in stores now) last March. My office is directly above our test kitchens and I’m able to look down on them through a glass wall to see what is going on. In May, I took this photo of Kristen and the counter filled with cookies, just waiting for our taste panel evaluation to begin.  After tasting all of these cookies and many more over several weeks, we settled on 42 of the very best ones. Then we took a photo of every recipe and put ...
