Berries and Orange Infused Vodka
by AndiatBettyCrocker  7/11/2011 11:41:00 AM

What did I do on my summer vacation? Well among other things, I tried out a recipe for making infused vodka while at our cabin last week. Since I was on vacation, I didn’t care to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, but this was so easy I had to try it.

I got the idea for making this beverage from one of my favorite websites: David Lebovitz - Strawberry Vodka.

I started with raspberry flavored vodka and added fresh strawberries and orange peel to it. I made a small recipe (only 1 pint) just to see how it would turn out.

After three days, I strained the strawberries and vodka mixture into a 1-quart canning jar. Didn't it turn out to be a pretty color?

It was time for the taste test. I poured about 1 shot of vodka into wine glasses and poured chilled white wine over it. The resulting drink had a nice berry flavor and lovely light-red color. It would be fun to try with other berries, fruits, and maybe even and herb or two. I'm thinking a lime-mint berry vodka would taste good. Can you think of some other fun flavor combinations? Share your ideas in the comments box.

Start to Finish Time: 3 days 5 minutes

1 pint raspberry vodka
1 pint strawberries, washed and quartered
Orange peel (from ½ orange)

1. Combine vodka and strawberries in 1 ½-quart pitcher.
2. Add orange peel.
3. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate 3 to 4 days, stirring once every day.
4. Strain vodka mixture through sieve/strainer with fine mesh.
5. Discard berries—all of their flavor and color will be leached out into the vodka.
6. Store in refrigerator for up to two weeks or in freezer for up to two months.

Serving Suggestions:
Serve over ice in lowball glass or pour a shot of the vodka in wine glass and top with chilled white wine.
