I have New Orleans on my mind, since tomorrow is Mardi Gras Day. A speciality of New Orleans, muffuletta sandwiches originated in 1906 at the Central Grocery. These hoagie-style sandwiches start with a loaf of crusty Italian bread. The bread is split and filled with layers of cheese, deli meats and a mixture of chopped olives, celery, garlic, capers, olive oil and vinegar.
Here is our version—a Chichen Muffuletta.

These sandwhiches weighted down in the refrigerator for 1 to 6 hours so they will hold together better and be easier to slice and eat.
