Hi Everybody, Kristen here
Yep, you guessed it! Those are honey bees.

There are nearly 8,000 bees in that 2 pound box! Careful though, don’t get too close! Nah, don’t worry I'm kidding, they won’t hurt you.
As a serious honey lover, I decided to try my hand at beekeeping about 3 years ago and fell in love with the hard working honey bee.
In Minnesota, most of our honey bees have to travel halfway across the country before they can make honey for us here in Minnesota. My honey bees came from California on a semi-truck in 2 or 3 pound boxes. Each box has around 8,000 or 12,000 bees in it. After work yesterday I hopped in my car and went to visit Jim at Nature’s Nectar, to pick up my new batch of bees.

I must be on the right track!
Natures Nectar is a family run company just outside of the Twin Cities that sells honey and beekeeping equipment and provides support for local hobby beekeepers like me. For more details on beekeeping you can check out this article.

While I go and get my new bees situated for the summer give this delicious recipe for Grilled Honey-Herb Shrimp a try.

Just remember… A honeybee has to travel over 55,000 miles and visit about 2 million flowers to make 1 pound of honey. That makes honey taste even sweeter doesn’t it?
