Hi, Kristen again,
Tomorrow is the 40th annual Earth Day!! It’s the time of year when we all refocus on learning how to live more green and sustainably all year long.
My sister, Kim and I volunteered for an Earth Day event at a local park cleaning up all sorts of weird things that people had left behind.

Kim, my twin is on the left and I'm on the right
Being slightly obsessed with food (and not always in the mood to clean up trash) I came up with a top 5 list of tips to make your earth day a green one in the kitchen.

Doing our part to clean up the park
1. Farmers Markets and CSA’s
A great way to support your local community and get tasty fresh produce in the process.
2. Recycle or Reuse Almost Anything
Leftovers? Don’t toss it out, brown bag it and save money and energy by not going out for lunch.
Need a reminder on what can be recycled?
3. Grow it!
Kitchen Herb Gardens are fun, fresh and less expensive. Look! Andi is all ready to go with her chives! Here are a few tips for kitchen herb gardens.
4. Compost it!
Don’t throw those kitchen scraps! It’s very easy to get started and you can even use it to fertilize your herb garden.
5. Eat locally and In-season
Asparagus and mushrooms are popping up all over the place right now. To celebrate earth day I’m making Asparagus Parmesan with grilled steaks (locally raised of course!)

Now it’s your turn... Get involved in something! It’s easy - Cascadian Farms has a great campaign right now to support organic farming – just pledge on facebook to follow a few of the eco-friendly tips. I just signed up… you should too!!
