What is that in the center of this fruit plate--ever seen it before? Two-toned melon? Really? We had a fruit plate delivered to our kitchens for a special event and at first, it look to me like someone didn't do a very good job of cutting up the canteloupe. Did they leave the rind on?
This, however, is a new hybrid cross between a cantaloupe and honeydew melon and is called an Orange Flesh Honeydew Melon. It looks like a honeydew melon on the outside but has the beautiful two-tone color inside. They are sweet, very juicy and less firm than a honeydew melon. They should be available from May through August. The next time I go to a supermarket, I'm going to look for one.
Have you seen this new melon yet? What did you think of it?
