If it seems like I am preoccupied with the weather, I admit it—I am. That’s because I live in Minnesota. It’s supposed to get to 95°F to 100°F today and get very humid—the heat index is predicted to be 105°F for today. But, I’ll take these temperatures any day over the -25 °F to -30°F that we suffer through in January.
My recommendation for anyone living here is to get out of town on the really hot weekends and drive to the North Shore and Lake Superior, where it is always cooler than in the cities. The town of Bayfield, WI, is on the south shore of the Lake Superior and is only about a 4-hour drive northeast of Minneapolis. It's a fun place to spend a weekend in the summer.
At least once a year, we make dinner reservations at the Wild Rice Restaurant which is located on a hill above the lake. If you ask to be seated at a table by the window, you won’t be disappointed. Here we are at our favorite table. It would make a good photo for our Christmas cards, don’t you think?

Jack ordered Wood fire Grilled Northstar Bison Strip Steak with Chipotle-Mashed Sweet Potato and Haircots Verts (those tiny French green beans).

I had the Wood Fire Grilled Superior Lake Trout with Thyme Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Sweet Pepper-Red-Onion-Mixed Green Sauté, and Romesco Sauce.

For dessert we shared the Homemade Puff Pastry Ginger-Rhubarb Tartlette with Chantilly Cream.

We have never been disappointed with anything at the Wild Rice Restaurant including the food, service and ambience. To make reservations, call:715-779-9881.
