Julie & Julia
by AndiatBettyCrocker  7/14/2009 10:10:00 AM

I was invited to a special advance screening of the movie, Julie & Julia last week, and I can hardly wait until it is released on August 7th, so I can see it again. It is a wonderful, summer “feel-good” movie that made laugh for two hours straight.

The movie is based on two true stories. One is about a young woman, named Julie Powell (played by Amy Adams) who challenges herself to cook her way through Julia Child’s cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, from her tiny New York City kitchen. Powell creates a blog to share her experiences with her readers and it quickly gained a large following. In 2005, she signed a book deal and her book, Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 tiny apartment kitchen, was published. It is also about Julia Child (played by Meryl Streep) and how she came to write her famous cookbook.

If you like to cook, read recipes, travel to France and watch cooking shows on TV, you will love this movie. I promise.

Since you can't see the movie for another 24 days, here are some fun French and Food blogs to get you in the mood:

Went to see the movie last week with my daughter and granddaughter after my colonoscopy! (Had to try to forget about it some way!) Theater was full of gray-haired ladies. It was definitely a chick-flick. We enjoyed it, just to know a little more about Julia Child's life. Amy Adams did a good job, and of course Meryl Streep was perfect as Julia... maybe not Oscar perfect, but she had the voice pitch and mannerisms down pat. Nice to see people besides me who really LIKE to cook!

I went to the movie last week with 3 of my friends. We really enjoyed it-lots of laughs. Julia and her husband were a real LOVE STORY! I thought it so funny when the movie kept showing them taking antacids after so much food, but they didn't look like they gained very much weight after Julie cooking all those recipes. I'm glad we have cook mixes now to shorten some the meal prep.
