I had apples on my grocery list last week and I usually don't spend too much time trying to decide which ones to buy. But, at my local supermarket, I noticed new varieties of apples I’d never heard of before like: Jazz, Pacific Rose and American Cameo. Have you heard of these apples?
I bought some of these apples and took them up to our cabin, last weekend, for a taste test.

Jazz Apples: The combination of Gala and Braeburn is red with yellow underneath, round, tart-sweet and very crunchy. This one was a little too tart for me but my daughter-in-law, Katie liked this one the most.

Pacific Rose Apples: Is a cross between Gala and a Splendor with a rosy pink to bright red, thin outer skin. The white flesh is sweet, crisp and juicy and it is often compared to the Fuji in flavor. This was my favorite of the bunch because it was sweeter than the Jazz and very juicy.

American Cameo Apples: Striped red (and a little brownish) with a cream background, they are supposed to have a perfect combination of sweetness and tartness, with the extra-crunchy flesh. We found them to be very sweet with not much apple flavor and somewhat mealy.
We gave Blake the first slice that I cut from a Jazz apple and he seemed to like it a lot!

If you buy some of these apples, they would taste great in this Apple, Cheese and Toasted Walnut Salad.
