This recipe was GREAT!! I made these while we were out camping. I pre-made them in the morning and it saved a lot of time. I did take some of the advice from previous reviews and added some things. I did spray the foil (a must). I used real bacon and under cooked it so it can cook in the packet. This added a lot of flavor. I added green & red peppers, pepper and garlic. I added a few chopped chives to the packet and added the rest with the cheese 5 minutes prior to it being done cooking (following others review). I did put all the ingredients in a bowl and mixed it with some olive oil (just to coat). I then added chunks of butter on the foil and poured the mixture on top. The butter helped with keeping it from burning on the bottom. We did have a crispy bottom, but it was not burnt. Our camping group raved on how great these potatoes were and would like me to make them again. They do taste good as left overs. I will definately be making this one again.

This recipe is fantastic! We use Hormel bacon bits, since it's real crumbled bacon and I don't have to clean up my stove afterward; or if I have cooked bacon on hand I'll use that instead. The cheese burned on me the first time I made them, so now I add the cheese at the same time as the green onions and toss the potatoes to combine everything. The cheese melts perfectly with the heat from the potatoes and tastes so good that we sometimes have more potatoes then our entree.

I have been making these for a while. If you don't vent the top of the foil you can turn them over every 15 - 20 minutes and avoid the burned bottom. They will puff up like a pillow while they cook and you can turn them over with pot holders. If you gently squeeze a potato in a corner you can check if they are done with out opening them.

I've been grilling these tasty taters forever, minus the bacon bits. I use real everything. Red potatoes are best. Try adding a few drops of Olive Oil, along with your favorite seasonings. If you want to combine your fresh veggies too, change the cheddar to a good shredded Parmesan, you won't regret it. The kids LOVE it too.

First let me say how much we loved this! I used the new foil with the non-stick side (great invention!) I eliminated the butter (reluctantly - diet) otherwise followed directions. The cheese formed a crispy crust on the bottom of the potatoes which tasted great! Okay, so I overcooked it a little.... but we found we liked it that way.

Oh boy are these good! I prefer using real bacon, and adding the cheese during the last 5 minutes of cooking.

I've made this recipe in many different forms. If I don't have 45 or 60 minutes to wait on this side, you can microwave the potatoes to give them a head start and prepare your recipe exactly the same way.

We are always looking for fast, healthy foods to make while camping and this one was a favorite by everyone. We even had people walking by asking what smelled so good.

My husband and I really enjoyed this recipe. I sprayed the foil, so everything came out easily. I had to use regular onion that I cooked with the potatoes, which was really good. I also cut the butter and cheese in half to make it healthier, and it was still very flavorful. The bacon bits didn't pop with flavor, but I'm guessing their flavor blended with everything else.

Easy to do and very little clean up. Tastes great! I used chives from my garden and real bacon bits (had left over from BLT's that week). Great idea if you're camping. Prepare ahead of time and keep in cooler until you're ready to cook.

I made these tonight and my kids loved them. I will do a couple things differently next time, including spraying the foil to avoid burning/sticking to the foil. Secondly, I think I'll try adding the cheese once they are cooked and closing them up to let it melt just before serving . We will definitely try these again soon. It's also fun to have the kids help getting everything ready.

Should spray foil first. It stuck and burned a little on me. 40 minutes is too long on a charcoal grill or I just had a really hot fire.

For a better flavor use real bacon, cooked and crumbled. For some variaty and zip add several tablespoons of Mirical Whip, Cheez Whiz, or sour cream, and mix it in afer the potatoes are done and prior to adding the green onions.Good stuff Maynard!!

I have been making potatoes on the grill for years-but I never have added cheese and bacon. I look forward to trying this over the weekend!

I have been making these kinds of potatoes for many years. I do 2 things different. I use cheese whiz. It has a much stronger cheese flavor than grated cheese and I use cooking or spanish onions.
