I didn't take the time to do the crumb coat and chilling. I also didn't frost the marshmallows and then try to put them on the cake. I frosted the cake, placed the marshmallow halves cut side down on the cake, then frosted them. When the frosting didn't want to stick to the marshmallow, I simply dipped into the frosting on the cake, and it all held together. Very easy to do, and they looked great, even if they weren't quite as smooth as those in the picture!

I made this cake this evening for my son's 7th birthday tomorrow. It was very easy to do. The only thing that I did different, is that I froze the marshmallows then frosted them then stuck them back in the freezer. It made it easier to place them on the cake. :) My husband loves the cakes and so do I! Very cute.

I made this cake for my four-year-old's party. What a hit! I used two cake mixes so I had enough blocks to stack them as if they were in a pile. Only two high, though! I will say this: be prepared for some time to frost all those marshmallows. I even froze them, too. The frosting process alone took me about three hours. I'm a novice cake constructor, though...maybe a pro would have more luck.

I made this cake last night for a party I am having on Sat. for my son who will be turning 9. I loved how this cake turned out. You just need to take your time and this cake will turn out great. I used choc. cake with cream cheese iceing. I used food coloring for the iceing and it turned out great. The marshmellows are very easy to do. Thanks for such a great recipe. Mandy-Nashville

I didn't freeze the cake and didn't have any problems. The trick is color the frosting, then thinly layer it to catch the crumbs. When you frost over that you typically don't have to worry about crumbs. My cake was falling apart when I took it out of the pan and I was still able to piece it together. To frost the marshmallows I had to hold them on a plate with a toothpick, but it worked. It was cute and my friends loved it. Great for my twins 1st birthdays, It gave them their own cake.

This was very easy to make and a lot of fun, everyone loved them!!!! The only thing I changed was insted of Marshmellows which are hard to ice and don't taste to good with cake (my opinion) I replaced them with slices of bananas, it was perfect esecialy with the ice cream!!!

I just finished making this cake as a birthday cake for a friend and I found it anything BUT easy! I am actually a pastry chef and have made desserts, in particular cakes, which were far more intricate but rarely have I been as frustrated as I was today. The frosting is difficult to get to the correct color, the frosting of the marshmallows less than fun and the overall experience very time consuming for the result you end up with. This cake is definitely NOT for the beginner. A very cute concept but the actual delivery is more difficult than one would be lead to believe.

This was great! Make sure you wash your hands ASAP as the colours do stain. I also used baking paper under my cakes when icing and that way the icing doesn't go all over the bench and it also makes it easy to transfer to board. I did Green/Red/Blue/Yellow. My 5 yo loved it! THANKS HEAPS

I thought this cake would be way easier than what it was. i was worried about making just from reading the other reviews. i think it would be a great cake if you know how to decorate cake and are good at it. i made it for my friend's sons 2nd birthday. she loved it. i would recommend for people how know what they are doing.

This was a huge hit with my son's friends (age 6) for a Lego party. It was much better looking than the many versions I have seen with cupcakes. Freezing the cake is key. I had no problems frosting the cake or marshmallows. The kids loved it!

I read all the other reviews and I was discouraged in making it, but I thought it was so cute that I went ahead and make the lego cake anyway. I froze it over night so I would not have a problem of it thawing out when I was trying to frost it. It came out very yummy, an d all the kids loved it, but it did not look as good as the picture. It was kind of sloppy looking, and even thought I froze it overnight, little pieces of the cakes were breaking off when I frosted it. Also when it finally defrosted all the way some of the frosting started running off the cake. I would recommend using fondant with this type of cake. It was still fun making it, but I would never do it again.

The kids at my son's 6th year old party thought it looked great! One boy even said "WOW that really does look like Lego blocks". I didn't have any problems frosting mine... but I did freeze mine for an hour as directed. I did have trouble finding the food coloring paste but found a food coloring gel that seemed to work out okay. It was hard to get the nice primary colors though from the food coloring. So mine didn't look as impressive as the photo. But for my Lego party they were a big hit and I got lots of complements on them.

I made this for my son's first birthday. People complemented me for the cakes, but I didn't think they turned out that great. I froze the cakes for an hour, but they still crumbled when I tried to frost them. They didn't look quite as cute and uniform as in the picture. I would do it again, but use a more sturdy cake (I used white cake mix) like a carrot cake type, and I would not bake it in a glass pan because it makes the corners round. Fun-looking cakes, but not as easy as I thought it would be.

I wanted to do something different for a child's birthday,as it seems people call on me for their cakes, which I don't mind because I find it a relaxing hobby. The cake was nice and moist, and it went over very well with the kids, and I actually have three more to do in the upcoming months. It was very different, and very colorful for a party.I would recommend it to everyone!
