Comments: The 7 ounces is right. That is for weight, not volume (liquid). Just measure two cups and you'll have it correct. I've always loved this recipe though, and yes it is oily some but it is fattening and gooey, the way real mac and cheese should be. You could make the light version but I most times only make this for special occasions or holidays, so I figure the real thing isn't so bad! ;) |

Comments: a lot of work, as much as making a custanrd with all the stove stirring, for little result. The measurments are wrong on teh recipe, 16 oz is 2 cups, so the macaroni to cheese ration hopefully is wrong, I did the 2 cups of both, it was bland (and I used sharp cheddar and thew in about a tbs of sour cream at the end!( and oily. (Not grainy, keep stirring on low heat until smooth, as directions say, it will bubble, it tales a while!!!) nice and smooth but so bland, not enough cheese, so I am guessing the measurments are off since 16 oz is 2 cups, on 7 oz. . . . betty crocker, please fix this recipe!!! |

Comments: ?this is my FAVORITE mac & cheese ever!! i have made it many many times sice i found it in my mom's old fashioned cookbook. but i have tweaked th recipe from what was printed. i add less pepper & mustard, a little more cheese (sharp or med cheddar), some veggies (brocoli, califlower & carrots), and some tuna so its more like my grandmas mac & cheese. i would reconmend this to anyone!!! |

Comments: It tasted all right, I would add more cheese though. Of course, the reason for the 3 spoons is the texture. It tasted grainy, I am not sure if it was the flour, my husband said the same thing. I will keep looking for a great homemade macaroni recipe. |

Comments: I made this recipe for a potluck at church. My 10 year old grandson is a vegetarian and requested mac and cheese with peas. I haven't made mac and cheese from scratch in years. This was very good and a hit with my grandson. I used whole wheat elbow macaroni and sharp cheddar cheese. |

Comments: I used to make this but lost the recipe! My family loves this recipe but I always tweak it using a bit more cheese and making sure that I cook the flour and margarine for a few minutes before adding the other ingredients. This gets rid of the grainy texture also using whole milk cheese will cut down on the oily grainy texture since the low fat cheeses just dont melt as well!
The boys did brown a bit of hamburger to add in to the mac n cheese to make a one pot meal. YUMMY! |

Comments: I made this last night and like others, I found it to be gritty...I did add onion and I put some smoke sausage in with it while it baked. Just not enough cheese flavor..I think I'll move on to the next mac and cheese... |

Comments: I found this original recipe in my mother's Betty Crocker cookbook, circa 1979-1980. It calls for chopped onion when melting the butter before combining it with the flour. I have since lost the page in her book but have it memorized. I've been making this since 1994 and it's a cherished recipe in my household. It's made at least once a month. |

Comments: It was pretty good. I added a little more cheese, some onion powder and a little extra milk and it came out nice and creamy. It's not a bad recipe for beginner cooks or for people who need to whip up a batch real quick. I give it a thumbs up! |

Comments: It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't the best I've had either. It was nice and creamy, but didn't have as strong a cheese taste as my husband and I would prefer. I suppose that comes from years of eating boxed macaroni and cheese. |

Comments: It wasnt my favorite but the family ate it. For some reason it did taste a bit grainy despite me mixing and mixing. Again, the family ate it but I know Betty has better ones out there for us. |

Comments: i've made this a few times now. the first time it seemed a bit grainy. when i make it now i use a bit more butter, and double up on the worcestershire and mustard (not powdered). i add the wor. to the butter the slowly wisk in the dry ingredents. i also wisk in the milk in small amounts at a time. this has helped a lot with the grainy-ness. i top it with crushed saltines before baking. LOVE IT! |

Comments: This is my family's favorite meal right now, and it is very easy to make. The only thing I do different is add a bit more dry mustard, and worchestire. It gives it a bit more zip. |
